We have 4 Character Meals Booked Im just curious to find out if they will charge us for my 1 year old grandson. Trying to come up with a ballpark cost of meals. Thanks

agree. you start paying for child meal when they turn the magical age of 3. so your grandson would eat for free. have a great trip!

To be clear; “character meal” is not the distinction that determines if a 1 year old is charged. Children under 3 are supposed to eat off your plate. At buffet and all you care to eat restaurants, that means they can eat anything and not get charged. As far as I know, all character meals are buffets or aycte style, so the answer should hold true. If you dine at a restaurant with a menu and you order him a meal, you will have to pay for it.

I have traveled a few times with infants babies and toddlers. Table service meals especially character meals are a bit slow and can be challenging for little ones to make it through. Suggest avoiding lunches since that’s usually a good time when little ones nap (and their schedules are just so messed up at Disney) - waking a sleeping baby to get food is a recipe for disaster. 1 years old is a big range. If your little one is eating food packets or puffs by all means bring in with you. Also bring in bibs - we like the wipable kind so we can reuse on our trip. For little ones who are spoon fed you might want to bring little spoons too - tre metal spoons are usually mess making. If you’re doing a breakfast buffet (chef mickeys Hollywood and vine etc) they will have some good snackable fruit loops and other cereals. If your little one is able, those are great to grab for them (and would not cost anything extra for you). Many buffets also have nice fruit selections to pick from as well. And ymmv but often times even at non buffets the servers will bring juice or milk for free and may even allow them to get a little snack off the menu - don’t be shy about asking - it’s an expensive trip and Disney is great about making sure ALL guests (ticketed or not) have a magical stay.

There are a few character meals that are not buffets/all you can eat style, so at those ones they might have to either order a kids meal or just eat off of an adults plate. Ones that I can think of are Bon Voyage Breakfast at Trattoria Al Forno, and Cinderellas Royal Table, not sure if there's any others that fall into this category.

If you order anything for your grandson, you'll probably pay for it. But usually only at non-buffets.
