Character Meals and what to say?

I hope no one judges me too harshly for this question but I wondered what people generally say to get great character interaction. I find that I get shy or nervous (maybe starstruck?!) when the characters come around to the table. Usually they just sign my sons autograph book and/or take a picture. However, I always think that there might be a better way to have a few extra fun moments with the different characters. For example, one breakfast at Crystal Palace we asked Tigger "where's Rabbit?" and Tigger mimed that Rabbit was sleeping. Cute!

Does anyone else have any tried and true questions for the Fab Five? Or other characters?

I'd be pleased to see any suggestions.

How old is your son ?? I find that the best interaction comes from the kids themselves. My then 2 yr old plays peek a boo with several characters, while my then 6 yr old would tell characters stories which would make the characters act shy, or laugh, or get grumpy, she even did the chicken dance with Goofy once. The interaction is based on the child not the parent from my view

Ah! I left out a couple of key points. My son is 11 and lives with autism, He often doesn't interact with the characters but really enjoys seeing them. So I find myself trying to hold a conversation with a character. Thanks for the link. Of course this information already exists!

Try to be as animated and happy as you can. When characters see you are enjoying the interaction, they will usually stay a little longer. Also, if your son is able and willing to, a hug goes a long way. You may may also tell the characters handler when the approach your table or the waiting staff about your son, and they can let the characters know ahead of time, that though he may appear to be shy and not enjoying, he really is.

Thanks for sharing this.

We have often given Pooh a honeycomb chocolate bar (we are from the UK). This provides for great inter-action.

DBF and I are two adults without children, and we try to make references to things in the characters' lives. Maybe I know too much about the characters and the movies or shows they're in but I've always had really good interaction with the characters and they always seem to know what I'm talking about.

The last time we saw Max (Goofy's son) we asked him where his dad was and he mimed a fishing pole and we both screamed "the perfect cast!" and Max knew exactly what we were talking about. (it's from A Goofy Movie lol) During the same time we saw him my boyfriend had drawn him as Powerline (also from A Goofy Movie) and had Max sign it and Max got all excited and started doing moves from the movie.

I've also stood there having a conversation with Eeyore about Pooh eating too much honey and not being able to get out of Rabbits house and he was super into the conversation...even though, y'know he doesn't talk lol. But his expressions were on point.
