Hi everyone,

Currently trying to decide on where to spend my dollars on “extras”. I am spending 12 nights with quick service dining so only want to do 1 or 2 extra table service meals. We have already booked Ohana for breakfast because my daughter is a huge stitch fan and we love it there. So for another splurge meal would you recommend another character meal or hoop de doo. We did storybook dining last time and it was nice but I remember regretting it a bit because it was like $200 Canadian by the time it was said and done and I just didn’t think it was worth that much $ for myself and my 10 year old daughter. I’m leaning towards hoop de doo for more bang for my buck but my daughter loves Disney characters. Thoughts?

Well, as you know, there are no characters there, but HDDR is great fun. I've been several times and it's a good time. Most kids between the ages of about 6-10 (before they get too cool) love it.

We went to Hoop Dee Doo when our kids were younger (7 and 12) with our friends and their 2 kids. We all had a blast! The food was good, especially the strawberry shortcake, and the show is cute. Its one of my fave memories of all our trips!

If your daughter loves characters, I might be more inclined to do that. Is there something she’d want to do?

I’ve never been but I’m dying to do Bon Voyage breakfast

I think that I would skip HDDR and go to Bon Voyage breakfast or 1900 Park Fare dinner. My DGD was bored to tears ar 10 when we took her to HDDR unless you count how much she laughed at her Pa laughing, however she loves 1900 PF, even today at 17.

People RAVE about Hoop De Doo. I've never been but it's on my short list. If you already have a character meal, I'd try Hoop!

The hoop de doo is a lot of fun and good food too. Also at fort wilderness is the chip and dale camp fire and sing along - it’s free and you get to meet chip and dale. Check the calendar and see if you can schedule the review then head to the campfire to meet chip and dale

My 11 year old has zero interest in hoop. We do the regular ddp so we do character dining almost every night as she loves it. We have a few favourites that we do every year. Tucked house dinner, park fare dinner and garden grill because she loves chip and dale. If I was paying out of pocket I would either do 1900 park fare or the non voyage breakfast. Food is above average at both and great characters. I fall in the same Canadian dollar situation and I think you’ll have a hard time justifying the cost of most meals at Disney when converted into Canadian dollars. Some of our meals barely feel worth the tip! Lol you’ll have a great time no matter what you decide.

My DS11 much prefers HDDR over character meals at this point, but every child is different. Have you considered showing your DD some youtube footage of HDDR to see what she thinks? My DS loves it. The actors come into the audience to interact, the show is fun and visiting Ft. W makes for a lovely evening.

Maybe show your daughter a youtube video of one of the songs from the show and ask her what she'd rather do. Dinner Theater is very different than seeing the characters.

HDDR is classic, she's going to see characters all over the parks. Do yourself and her a favor and take in HDDR. The food is good and you get to play an old school wash board with a spoon. It's been running for 45 years.
Watched it for the first time as a 7 year old in 1978, watched it last year as a 47 year old, still loved it!

HDDR is our must do every trip. I would do it over a character dinner any day. The show is fun, my niece was 18 months old her first time going there and it was the highlight of our trip, she loved it so much and it is now one of her favorite places. We always pay OOP for it, so it is nice to have a big meal paid for in advance (gratuity and all).

We've been going to the HDDR since my girls were little. They are now in their 20's and they still want to go every time we go to Disney.

I think HDDR is a lot of fun. We do it every year. We usually do a character meal as well, but given the choice, I would pick HDDR.
