This affects our family as we are going the first week of June so I thought I would post for others traveling between May and July. Kinda sucks but it is what it is.

From Allears.net:

The holiday surcharge for buffet and character meals around the World is returning, as previously announced. Prices for meals during these dates will be several dollars more per person than at other times of the year. The dates affected are April 5 - April 18, 2009, and May 24 - July 11, 2009. For example, at the Magic Kingdom's Crystal Palace, prices will be as follows:

Breakfast: $22.99/Guest (10 and older)--$12.99/Guest (3-9) (regularly $18.99/$10.99)
Lunch: $24.99/Guest (10 and older)--$13.99/Guest (3-9) (regularly $20.99/$11.99)
Dinner: $34.99/Guest (10 and older)--$16.99 Guest (3-9) (regularly $28.99/$13.99)

Crazy isn't it... a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) will have a charge of $71.96....for BREAKFAST! I assume that's before tax and any tip...
there isn't enough food to justify that charge.

Course, I just try not to think about what I am paying when we go next month (5 adults, 1 child). Thankfully we can get the TIW card and save 20%, but I just look at the character meals as entertainment plus food. You do pay for that, and that's ok.
(the price of the kids meals is what bothers me, cause you know they won't eat much when there are characters around) Oh well.:rolleyes1

it caused us not to add another meal for our trip in June. We were discussing whether to go to another meal. It was close given the normal pricing, but the meal just didn't seem worth it with an additional $15 added to the normal price. We have enough character meals planned already.

That's why the regular Dining Plan is such a good deal for people who book a lot of table-service meals. The price of the DP does not increase during the special "holiday pricing" times of year.

We use the plan each trip. :thumbsup2

They started this last year. I was hoping things had slowed down enough that it wouldn't happen this year, but I guess not. People must still be willing to pay or are using DDP and it doesn't matter.
