We are going to our first WDW trip in October. Here is the situation: Our ds, 7, is not into any characters, Disney or otherwise. He's never watched a Disney movie (OK, Cars) but nothing else. This is not my doing, I grew up with Disney and wouldn't have a problem with it...it's just his personality, which is fine with me :thumbsup2

I woudn't say he Dislikes the characters at all, really just doesn't have much knowledge of them. Anyway, my question is should I even bother with a Character meal if he isn't into it?!

I hope I don't offend anyone here!! I'm just wondering if I book a Character meal if it would be more for dh and I than ds! Thanks!

I would talk to your son about it and see if he would be willing to go to a character breakfast...sell him on the food and and say, by the way, you may find Pooh or Mickey walking around the dining room!

If he say no way go to Boma, Kona, Olivia's or Grand Floridian Cafe for a fantastic breakfast without the big soft fuzzy characters!

My DS was 8 on his first trip and before the trip made it clear that he wouldn't have anything to do with the characters. Our first night we went to Mickey's Backyard BBQ and I asked him if he would please take one picture with Goofy. He very reluctantly walked up to do so. Well, Goofy worked some Disney magic ... messed with his hat, played with this ears & just generally toyed with him. He turned DS around for the pic and he had the biggest grin on his face. He is now 13 and still looking forward to seeing Goofy and Stitch. He may not want to see all of the characters anymore and that's Ok with me. But you never know how your DS will react once he is there. I would try the breakfast at 'Ohana with Stitch and Mickey or the Donald one in AK. You should not feel guilty at all that they may be for you and your DH. And maybe your DS will have some fun, too!

I agree with the OP. If you guys want to do one, do it...he may get in to the "magic" and enjoy it once he's there. If he doesn't, at least the food's still good. We've done Tusker House breakfast with Mickey, Donald, Goofy, etc. and it's tons of fun. When our oldest was little, he was terrified of the characters, and they were good about reading the situation and passing us by if we asked.

Have a wonderful first trip!!!

So totally different age but DS is almost 4. He knows NO characters outside of maybe seeing part of a Pooh movie. He was at first (1900 Park Fare) unsure but by the third or 4th character, he LOVED it. By the second experience he was hugging them. So I'd say give it a shot.
