We love character meals, and from past experiences, have come to the conclusion that BREAKFAST is the best deal and highest food quality. We've done CP twice now and are now ready to branch out.

Of those of you that have done BOTH Cape May and Chef Mickey's character breakfast, which one did you like more and why?

I like the idea of riding the monorail to eat at Chef Mickey's but I've heard that the total experience is just better at Cape May b/c its less hurried and more relaxed. I'll probably wind up trying one this trip and the other on a follow up trip but....I'm in planning mode now...so details, Details, DETAILS! Also, are there any special Christmas decorations to look for IN the dining room specifically (or near the dining room)? :listen:

No contest for us. We hate Chef Mickeys - and Cape May is our favorite Character breakfast. The food is 100 times better (hotter, fresher, less picked over and messy, more interesting choices), the atmosphere is much quieter and more laid back, and the character interaction is much better since everything seems less rushed and hectic. We love to eat breakfast at Cape May and then take the boat over to MGM or Epcot. It's a great way to start a Disney day! As for Christmas decorations, we love the giant gingerbread carousel in the Beach Club lobby! It's unbelievable!

Wow...thanks for such a quick response. You've just confirmed what I've heard....though generally the comparison has been made for other meals/differnent restaurants...its good to hear a review from someone that has been to both the places I'm considering. I glad to know the bit about clean food bars and selection....I was worried with Cape May being a little off the beaten path that we would only get the very basic breakfast fare.

We'll be staying at ASMo. I've heard to make PS for the latest seating b/c you get more character interaction. Thought mabey on an EPCOT day we would hit EPCOT early and do attractions on the right side till we get to the international gateway then walk to cape may for a 10:00 am PS. It's a short walk from EPCOT, right? Where is the boat/ferry at? I've only used the MK ferry before.

Any other reviews/opinions out there?

The boats at Epcot board at the International Gateway, which is between England and France in the World Showcase. The dock at the Beach Club is betwen the Yacht and Beach Club. It is an easy walk, too, from Epcot - maybe 10 minutes.

Honestly, we've never found Cape May too be all that busy and the character interaction has always been great - no matter what time. Like I said, we like to have an early breakfast and then take the boat to MGM or Epcot. The way you are describing would work too, if you hit either MGM or Epcot on and early entry morning and had a late PS at Cape May for breakfast.

I'm still dreaming about the cream cheese blintzes. Seriously. I scheduled a trip there for breakfast just to get some more of those little bundles of happiness . . .

LoL...I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for cream cheese blintzes now. Aren't those the things you can dump raspberry sauce on? MMMMM. I see you're going the MVMCP on the 18th...we're going on the 15th. Have fun! Now I'm hungry.

I love them both. Chef Mickey's is a requirement for hubby though so we most of the time end up doing that.

If you like a lot of action and a bit of noise Chef Mickey's is fun. They do have good food.

Cape May is a little more quaint and quiet and they also have really good food. If I remember correctly more fresh fruit.

The one benefit to Chef Mickey's is that you do get to see Mickey. At Cape May its Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale.

Yep. It looks like we'll be at All Star Movies at the same time. Maybe we'll see you there! Just look for the little blond haired, blue eyed tornado. . .

We've done Chef Mickeys about three times and just recently 9/3 was our first breakfast at Cape May.

We loved Cape May. We were one of the first families there for a 7:30 seating. The food was fabulous. I loved the steamed asparagus, the cheese blintzes and the blueberry bread pudding type thing.

The eggs were good, and the bacon/sausage (as my DH told me) was not greasy and tasty.

I had a second helping of the asparagus (it was that good and fresh). There is a separate pastry area with donuts/danishes/breads away from the buffet line. I'm not a donut person, but my son liked them.

My daughter enjoyed the selection of fresh fruit and the sausages.

The characters came by very quickly. In fact Goofy was waiting for us to sit down so he could visit. Minnie and Dale came by afterward. The characters came by and then still waved and did other stuff. Dale pretended to drink my sons chocolate milk!

Our waitress, Theresa was very sweet! She took great care of us throughout our meal.

The adults liked the Cape May setup better. It wasn't migraine central as Chef Mickeys tends to be.

I prefer Chef Mickey to Cape May. We just did Cape May in June on our last morning, thinking it would be a good change of pace. I thought the restaurant was very quiet and more laid back than Chef Mickey, but the character interaction was very, very slow. Maybe we missed the cycle or something but we never did see Minnie come around and I just didn't think it was that exciting.

We had a long wait in the lobby for our PS and while I don't think Chef Mickey is any better, there is more excitement for the kids to watch. I just think it was okay but I wouldn't go back. I prefer either Chef Mickey or CP at the MK, where we're going in November.

Although I'm sure the kids will appreciate noisy/loud, I don't see why the experience can't benifit both parties (meaning adults AND children). I think a relaxing breakfast before all the overstimulation of the parks will be great. As far as character interaction goes, that is what you make of it... We generally just take quick pics and do autographs b/c we're worried there are other ppl waiting but I think this trip we'll try a couple of one liners to encourage interaction (like asking Minnie if she's gotten a diamond from Mickey yet, or calling Chip and Dale squirrels/gophers.) Plus we're aiming for the end of the breakfast session so mabey the characters get a little silly with the remaining a diners at the end of shift? Thats my hope anyway...once there is no need to rush off to the next table.

Asparagus...YUM YUM. What an odd item to serve for breakfast. Wonder if they'll be serving it when I'm there in December? I can eat 17.99$ worth of asparagus....LOL.

GEM...and what a beautiful tornado he is! How old? Are you aiming for a certain section of ASMo? My guess is Buzz?? We're trying for Pongo. My dd has a stuffed dalmation that she sleeps w/every night.....she had a hard time choosing tho! She's a big toy story fan too. (I keep telling her Pongo is not a guarantee but I'm secretly wishing for some pixie dust)

Hey Shannon -

I really think you can't go wrong with Cape May. Our entire family (from toddlers to grandparents and everyone in between) loves it.

Paul is two. He'll be 31 months old when we're there in December. We're planning to request the Dalmatians section, too. He's crazy for all kinds of puppies! Maybe we'll be neighbors! :sunny:

Hey wouldn't that be a hoot? I'd break out in song "It's a small world after all....."

I have to vote for Cape May. I always end up as far from the food as possible at Chef Mickey's. Not bad except that I have to get plates for me and two kids. Cape may just seemed easier and less hectic.

I have to vote for Cape May also, I agree with GEM the food is great the atmosphere is fun but not as hectic. At Christmas the lobby is great lots of decorations and outside they have trees made of pointsetta's great photo opportunities.

In Cape May for breakfast there are 2 servers Sami and Ronda they have just celebrated their 34th anniversary working as waitresses at Walt Disney World since they trained right before opening the park. I suggest requesting either of them they are great, very attentive, and always add to the magic and Sami is always willing to take photos for you. They are the 2 I always have requested since 1990...they are great!!!!! They are good at remembering past guests of theirs.

Have a great time in December, I'll miss you guys I'm there the 9th-`16th.
