Changing Universal Tickets

What I have:

• 4 3-day park-to-park tickets with 2 days free from UT- cost $310.36

What I need:

• 3 3-day, 3 park tickets with 2 days free (UT cost $339.16, Universal cost $390.99)
• 1 3 park seasonal pass ($499.99 at universal)

How would you go about doing the changes?

• Return all 4 initial tix to UT (I think there is a 5% fee? But maybe not since I'd be re-ordering something more expensive) and get 4 3 day tickets, then upgrade on to an AP at universal?
• Return 3 tix to UT and upgrade, then upgrade the one remaining to the AP at universal?
• Keep all 4 tix as is, then upgrade at universal (is that even an option, and if so, do we run the risk of getting shut out of the water park since we don't currently have those tickets?)

We have an AP rate for part of our stay, so one ticket needs to become an AP no matter what.

Am I missing something? Totally new to universal so I'm trying to figure out what all we want to do. I've re-planned this trip 300 times.

You have 2 park tickets now and want to add Volcano Bay? You could try calling UT and see if they'll do the upgrade for you w/o the 5% return fee.

Universal will credit you for their ticket price when you do the upgrade (ie, your current tickets are worth whatever Universal would have charged you for those same promo tickets). For the one that you're upgrading to the AP, you probably don't gain anything by upgrading ahead of time before upgrading to the AP at Universal - maybe a few bucks, not worth the 5% fee but if UT will do it for no charge then no reason not to do all 4 I suppose.

I think the more relevant question is whether you are going by 5/5, when the current promo ends? Not sure you will be able to upgrade within that promo at the parks if the promo is no longer being offered. I'm fairly sure you could still upgrade to include VB (they want your money) but they may only be able to offer non-promo pricing at that point so it could be quite a price differnce.
