Changing the name on a Reservation

My family and I currently have a reservation to stay at AKV in August. We also just learned there is a possible family situation that may complicate our trip. It's actually great news - we've been matched with a baby girl in Korea that we are planning to adopt! The timing is very unclear at this point (there are a bunch of bureaucratic processes that need to be completed) but it looks like she will likely be ready some time between May and August.

Here's my question: if we need to cancel at the last minute (within the 30-day window) is it possible to transfer the reservation to a different name (instead of having the points put into holding)? We are planning on going with my brother-in-law and his wife, who would be staying on a cash reservation. My hope is that they could cancel their reservation (and get a full refund as long as they cancel at least five days in advance) and stay in our villa instead. Would this be possible?

You should be able to do this without any trouble. Congratulations on your upcoming adoption!

Congratulations!!! Changing the names is not an issue. If you have the room on the reservation now, you could consider adding them as guests now (unless you have the DDP) and then remove them (or yourselves) when you know.

They can be listed as guests in your room as well hold a reservation of their own.

Thanks for the answers and the congratulations! We're hoping that she will come home earlier this summer and have enough time to settle in so we can all go to Disney together!

Congrats!
If you get a CM on the phone who won't change the names, just hang up and call back.
I've had to do it once before. They should be able to no problem.

As a new DVC member, that's pretty disturbing that some CMs won't help with something as simple as changing a name on a reservation.

Some of them do not correctly understand the renting rules and so they refuse to change names if you mention anything about renting. (They think it is against the rules and it isn't). It's just a lot easier to hang up and call back than it is to ask for a Supervisor or argue with them.
