I notice in some peoples signature that they change their resort during their stay at Disney. Can you give me some reasons or examples why you would spend half your time at one resort and the rest at another? I'm asking from an inexperienced, unknowing point of view. Thanks for the info and putting me 'in the know'.

Hi Deb!

I think people have various reasons for switching resorts. I'll share our personal experience regarding a split stay.

Originally, we had booked a stay at Port Orleans. As a 'special treat' we wanted to try Animal Kingdom Lodge. Booking the entire stay at AKL would be WAY above our budget. So, for a little less than what we were spending for our entire stay at Port Orleans, we were able to book the first 7 nights of our trip at POP century, and the last 4 nights at Animal Kingdom Lodge. The first part of trip will be pretty busy and "park" oriented. The second part of the trip will be a little slower and we will spend more time at the resort. We really like POP, but are REALLY looking forward to a relaxing stay at AKL.

I don't know if I would be brave enough to split a resort stay on a trip of less than 7 nights, but there are lots of people who do. I think reasons people may split their stays are: resort room availability, resort discount availability, travelling with other families for part of the trip, or just the chance to try different resorts. I'm sure there are a ton of other reasons too. :)

Hope this makes sense! ;)

Wow.. what a great explanation Minnie! That's awesome.. I'm going to bookmark that one for the next time this question pops up .. (and it will!)

I agree, Minnie gave a great response

I can only tell you from my personal experience that I would like to stay at most of the resorts but we don't go yearly. So it's my preference to try two resorts on the same vacation. This is not my sweetie's preference, however, since we're trying two different Epcot resorts, he's fine with it. Otherwise if we do just one resort, we go to the others to "visit" the lobby & pool area, dine or shop. As with everything resort choice is a very personal choice, and for me it's hard to pick just one. (We've tried five and I'd like that total to be higher!)

Great explanation and I totally agree :thumbsup2

Our last 3 trips we have done split stays (in fact, we stayed at 3 different resorts during our last 10 day trip):)

This may sound like it puts a dent in our day, but it doesn't.

We just check out early (after breakfast) If it is a designated park day, then we put our luggage in the car (we always rent a vehicle) and head to the park.

We usually take a break from the park around lunchtime and go to the new resort we are checking into, then have a rest/swim or whatever, then go back to the next park we want to see late afternoon/early evening ::yes::

If it isn't a park day then we just leave after breakfast and head to the new resort :thumbsup2

We enjoy trying new places and as Minnie said, if you want to try a more expensive resort, it is cheaper on the pocketbook to do it for just a few days rather than an entire trip.

Good luck in your decision :)

We are doing a split in Dec mostly because it was too hard to decide where to stay. We finally narrow it down to AKL and Poly so are staying at both.

We are doing a split stay during our 10 day trip this December as well. This will be our 2nd family trip to WDW. We spent 10 nights at Pop last May and loved it. We got a 20% discount offer after ordering the 2008 DVD so we thought this would be a good opportunity to try a moderate and see what the differences are from a value. The kids don't know about this trip yet but we often talk about the 'next time we go'. So the next time we go they want to stay at Pop again because they loved it so much. But when we talked about the moderates CSR really stood out for us. We are going during Pop Warner week so CSR and POP, from past years anyway, seem like resorts that aren't really affected by the influx of football players and cheerleaders.

So for us there are a couple of reasons why we are splitting our stay - to try a different resort but also go back to what we know and love (5 nights at each) and hopefully avoid the Pop Warner crowd.
