Changing Resorts/Rooms During Vacation

I was wondering if anyone has had to change resorts or rooms during their Disney vacation. I may have to do this and I was just wondering how it all works and if its a hassle. I'm sure changing rooms isn't as big a deal as changing resorts. If I have to change resorts, does the resort provide transportation for the guests and luggage from one resort to the other?

I think it's a huge hassle, but some people actually enjoy it. We'll be doing two nights at a value before our week at OKW during May. We're renting a car, so transportation won't be a problem. I believe you're free to take the Disney bus to your new resort. I can't imagine that they'd provide individual transport when switching resorts.

Just check your bags with the bellman at your first hotel and ask they be transferred to your next hotel. Go to a park for the day, head over to your new hotel and your bags will be waiting for you over there. No worries!

We have done this before and will most likely do it again.

Thanks Sheryl!

I agree with sheryl0521, we do it a lot. Stay with the AP discounts on friday and saturday.

I'm not an AP holder yet, but hope to be soon. What do you mean by staying with the AP discount?

You can go to disc home and check them out under discounts, I got Pops perfared rm for $86 for May 5 & 6. Could have gotten standard for $74. usually get the moderates for under $100. First time staying at Pops, wanted to give it a try.

There is no hassle to it whatsoever. You just have to realize that you may not receive your luggage at your new resort until dinner time, so make sure that you take everything you're going to need for the day with you in a small carry-on.

We changed resorts twice on the last trip, and each time our bags were there waiting for us when we received our room. When you call down to bell services, make certain you tell them that you are transferring to a new resort, and then confirm with the bellhop when they come up to get your bags. They will then give you a receipt that you will need to identify your bags at your new resort.

It really was pretty painless, and sure beat having to load and unload the van we rented.

We just did it last week from SSR to WL, piece of cake! Bellhop takes the luggage to transfer to new resort and you go about your day! Would do it again anytime!

We have also done this! Not a problem!

Because of a change in our plans we had to change rooms at OKW. We packed everything up (including the food) and calle dbell services. They stored everything including our perishables. (We put those in a separate bag.) When we returned the front desk gave us our new keys and bell services delivered everything to our new room without a problem. :cool1:

Thank you all for your comments. Day by day I'm calling MS to convert my OKW reservation to BCV. So far it has worked out but I have 4 more nights to change over. Based on all of your comments, its nice to know that if by chance I have to split my stay between OKW and BCV, that it won't be a headache with the transfer.

Thanks again for sharing!!!

We switched OKW to BCV and it was not too much a problem. We did have to call the BCV bell staff twice to get our bags - but - that is not a calamity I would complain over.

Also - they will move groceries as well!

If you have a car (and little ones) - I might suggest you take bathing suits in the car! That way, when you arrive at the next resort and the bags are delayed you can move along with no incident!

We have done it and find it hassle free. You just call Bell Services and they pick up your stuff and move it to the other resort.

About the only thing I think I would do if I knew I had to move would be to buy one of those cheap styrofoam coolers at the grocery store when I did my initial shooping, and then I'd pack all my food in that for the transfer. More to keep all foodstuffs in one place than anything else, and to protect the perishables a little for the trip. Since it would be a cheapie cooler, I'd have no problem leaving it behind when I left WDW.

We stayed at AKL the first two nights of our last trip and then checked into VWL. We didnt find it to be a hassle at all. It probably took an hour of our time to do this. We took a cab from AKL to VWL. We checked in. The room wasnt ready (it was 10 in the morning) they gave us keys and told us the room would be ready at 400. They checked our bags, stored our groceries and that was that. When we came back from the parks at almost midnight, we checked with Bell Services and they delivered our stuff to the room. No problems.

We just split our stay, 5 nights BCV, 5 nights BWV and I was surprised how easy it was. I thought I would hate packing up in the middle of the trip, but we did a couple of things to make it easier. We packed the clothes we wore the first half in one suitcase and the rest in another that we slid under the sink and didn't even open. We also brought a big, cloth laundry bag with a drawstring. Instead of repacking our dirty clothes, we put them in the laundry bag and added it to our luggage, ready to be washed when we moved to our 1 bedroom. We also tried to hold off buying any souvenirs until we moved. The only things we had to pack were swimsuits, our stuff to get dressed and a few groceries. We were able to put all the groceries in our extra suitcase and didn't have to mess with a bunch of sacks. We did have some milk, juice, and bacon that we put in a separate bag. We let the bellman know that they needed to stay cold. The day we moved, we went to a water park so we didn't feel rushed to get out the door. Since we were just across the lake, we walked over the BWV, checked in, and caught the TL bus from there. We got back about 3:30, but our room wasn't ready until just after 4:00. It wasn't a big deal, we just sat out on the porch until time. It was so easy we will definitely continue to split our stays.

Yes. Once you get to your room, you will also need to call bell services to bring your bags up.
