My DD and I are going to the parks for just one day. We will be checking out of one resort the day we go and checking into another one. My DH and DS won't be going into the parks with us. They were going to move our stuff over to the new resort and check in. I just realized that the reservation is in my name. Will my DH be able to check in for us if I'm at the parks? If not, do you think I can just call Disney and have them put the reservation in his name instead? I appreciate any advice you might have on this issue.

As long as he is listed on the reservation he can check in. Disney as a rule will not change the lead name on a reservation.

As previously stated ... Change the lead name on the reservation- it can't be done. It requires a cancellation and a new reservation. That means possibly losing discounts, I'm not sure what happens to any already booked fastpasses.

I'm pretty sure anyone on the reservation can check-in as long as there is a credit card on file.

Safest bet - do online checkin - bypass the front desk and they should be able to tap right into the room with their magic bands.

Of course, this assumes they have magic bands - you don't really mention, but if they are on the reservation Disney gives them a magic band.

If doing online checkin - they will text the primary on the reservation when the room is ready - your husband and son will need to find something to do (even if it is sitting in the food court) until you receive the text

Doesn't always happen. Hasn't for me.

Op I'm sure dh's name is on the reservation. He'll be able to check in.

Really? I've never done online check-in - I'm old school and like to chat and get the personal front desk experience (and yes this is a little bit of a holdover from years and years ago when the front desk agents would dole out upgrades at will - hope springs eternal)

But, I was thinking about doing it for part of my trip this year.

Are you saying if online checkin was initiated by the primary, that if a magicband holder is listed as a room occupant, but not the primary on the room - they may not be able to get in the room with their magicband after the primary has received notice that the room is ready?

I thought that is one of the perks of online checkin?? Guess I'll be rethinking my strategy. Apologies if I gave incorrect info

If the lead guest receives the text that the room is ready, theoretically, anyone on that reservation with an MB should be able to open the door to the room. We've encountered situations where no one's MB was able to open the door, but a quick trip to the front desk fixed the problem. If a guest is listed on the reservation, they will be able to get into the room or get help from the front desk to get inside.

Another thing to consider is that if this is a split stay (one Disney resort to another), you will need to be sure you have been completely checked out of the first one. This just means a quick stop at the front desk to let them know you would like to be fully checked out. I would also mention that you will be moving to a new resort, and often they can call the new one to let them know to check you in and see if your room is ready.

I agree with the online check in- it will make it easier to know when the room is ready. I know from experience that room requests may hold up the availability- we had that happen last year and waited until almost 3:00.

Once your room is ready with online check in, anyone on the reservation can tap their band at the door and go in. It doesn't matter if they are primary or not. I think the PP was saying that if the room is not ready yet, no one can get in. They will have to wait for you to get the text that it is ready (and that text will have the room number).

Thanks everyone! We always do online check in so hopefully my husband doesn't even have to go to the front desk. We are switching from one Disney hotel to another so I know that we will need to check out at the front desk at the first hotel. We learned this the hard way last summer. The boys will probably get to the new resort around 1:00 so I was hoping that my husband could go to the front desk and ask about our room if I haven't received a text yet. In all our stays at Disney, we have only had to wait until 3:00 for a room once. I guess we have been lucky.

We have done split stays and we bring our luggage down to the front and they will transfer it over to the new resort for us. Just in case your DH and DS would rather not have to do all the transferring themselves.

We drive down so the boys will have no problem moving our stuff. We do split stays a lot so they are used to it.

Sometimes people don't receive the text... the room number also appears now in MDE, once your room is available. So your husband could look try to look at the reservation details in the app.
