Changing resort points used for 11-month res?

We're in the process of closing on two resale contracts, SSR and AKV for the same use-year, which was our solution to not being able to decide between THVs and animals.

Both of the contracts have banked points we're going to have to use in 2012. We're hoping to make a trip the beginning of December, and our contracts should close and be available a couple weeks before the 7-month window opens.

My understanding is that if we make a reservation before the 7-month window opens, the points would have to come out of whichever contract for the resort we're using, and there's no way to later switch the points to use the banked points from both contracts. The only way to do that would be to make a new reservation and cancel the old one.

I suspect this is a moot point, as I am guessing that availability won't be incredibly different for THVs or savannah-view rooms immediately before or at the 7-month window, and hopefully we can get a reservation at SSR at the 7-month window regardless, but have just been thinking about ways to make sure we spend all the banked points. Our plans for the future are to alternate which resort we're staying at each year.

Thanks,
Bruce

Availability may be an issue but book what you can as early as you can using borrowed and current UY points without borrowing additional points. Assuming of course you don't miss your banking window with the current UY points. then when the 7 month window opens call back and book any days you need at the other resort. Take individual days but don't cancel anything at that time if you don't need those points right away or until your reservation is the way you want it and complete. You can always link any consecutive days in the same unit type even if made with different contracts and reservation numbers. You can also cancel individual days of existing reservations without canceling the entire thing. Personally I don't think they should but this is the way it works currently so use it. Don't forget to wait list any days that you can't get initially. Don't forget to go back and substitute any points you need to so that you have all banked points used within your reservation and as many full function points available as possible.

You are correct in that you can never use non-resort points for a room booked during the home resort booking period.

What I might do, just to be sure you use up the points if you are able to book prior to the 7 month mark is book a split stay at each resort to secure something and then when your window opens up at 7 months, call MS and see if they can change one or the other so you have the trip at one resort.

If not, you can then waitlist in hopes to get exactly what you want!

Congratulations and good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I know I'm asking for a bit of luck getting time then anyway, but will try to book whatever I can at either resort when I get access to make the reservation and will try to move it to a single resort once the 7-month window opens.

I asked the sellers to bank the 2011 points before the contract was submitted for ROFR, so no worry about losing the points.

If necessary, I'll be forced to take an extra vacation next year... :rolleyes1
