I am a newbie and was hoping someone could help me with a reservations question. I own points at both BWV and SSR. If I book points at my home resort at 11 months out, can I change to a different resort at the 7 month window? (Assuming availability). How difficult is it?

You certainly can. In fact, I think a lot of folks do just that. Just be sure there is availability at the resort you want to book BEFORE you cancel your home resort ressie. That way you'll be sure to have a place to stay.

The other thing to do is ask to be wait listed. This way if a room becomes available they will either automatically put you in it, or you can have it set up that they call you first and give you 24 hours to make a decision. I also just found out that you can be wait listing on more then one resort. We are booked for OKW and are wait listing for VWL. And if it comes through, great, if not at least I know that we have a 2 bedroom at a wonderful resort. :lovestruc

As Chuck indicated, this is really the best way to book at a non-home resort (at least a WDW one) so that you have a "worst case" plan lined up at your home resort.

The ease of switching at 7 months is primarily driven by which resort you want to go to and when. BWV and BCV are hard to get in October during the F&WF. VWL and most DVC resorts are hard to get from Thanksgiving through Christmas at 7 months.

As advised, you can always go on the wait list and probably have some success. But be prepared to stay in your home resort if nothing comes through. And no matter which resort you call home, that wouldn't be too bad would it? I am assuming you are not wanting a WDW trip with a VB or HH home resort...then this strategy just makes no sense at all!! :rolleyes1
