Changing reservations at the last minute

I have been noticing that there are a lot of last minute cancellations - I'm sure due to the $10/person cancellation policy. We have a reservation next Wednesday at Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch and I keep trying to get Crystal Palace. If a Crystal Palace becomes available at the last minute- can I switch my reservation from Liberty tree without a penalty or will I get charged a penalty.
