Changing Reservation to October - Discounts?

For everyone that rescheduled their Spring trip to Fall, did you book a room with no discount as the Fall discounts aren't out yet? I don't believe you can turn a non-discounted room into a discounted room unless that has changed. Just wondering if I should reserve something now as things might get crazy with everyone rescheduling. Thanks!

Not sure what will happen by fall but the three previous years there have been no discounts for OCT. With all of the parties and F & W there hasn't been a need. So many people are already rebooking for the fall right now, that if the virus situation improves there still may not be a need for discounts.

It all depends on when the parks reopen and the visitor response.

Historical discount patterns aren't going to tell us much here - we're in a situation that's never happened before.

Disney bases their discounts on projected occupancy. If there's a lot of pent up demand in the fall and people are booking WDW vacations like crazy, there won't be discounts. If people are still leery of travel and projected occupancy is low, you'll see discounts.

There's just no way to tell right now.

Yeah these are uncertain times for sure! The rack rates are crazy high and I haven't paid them ever! I don't think I could afford staying on site if they don't offer discounts.

You certainly can. If the discount is available for your resort and room-type, you can request the offer be applied to your reservation. Or you can modify resort, room-type and/or dates to use a promotion. As mentioned above, whether or not discounts will become available for fall is unknown. The only option right now for fall is to book rack-rate, or simply wait and see; if you really want to go in the fall, I recommend booking rack-rate that fits your budget and then adjust when/if promotions are released.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thanks! I was told a few years ago, you can only get a discounted room if it's available as they only have a certain amount of rooms with the discount. So let's say I book a room rack rate, then call to get a discount applied, if it's not available, they can't apply it. If it is available, I could have just booked the discounted room that day it wouldn't have mattered if I already had it booked. Is this not the case anymore?

This is accurate. Booking the room now doesn't give you any advantage or disadvantage to be able to obtain a discount. All it does is secure a room for you, which is beneficial if you intend to go whether a discount comes out or not.

Disney only allots a certain number of rooms and certain room types at each resort for every promotion. When/if a promotion is released, you would have to call or modify online (if available) to a room that falls within the parameters of the promotion. Its possible you may need to change room type, change resort, change dates, or even change/add tickets depending on the qualifiers of the promotion. They don't apply it to your existing reservation, its an actual modification.

I agree with PPs that its impossible to use past indicators to determine what Fall discounts will look like this year. I can tell you that I booked the current room only bounceback offer for Fall and there were only four days at the end of October that were included in the promotion. But with everything going on today, they either will need no discounts at all because it will be busy with everyone wanting to go, or they will implement discounts to entice people back after the economy and jobs took such a hit.

Thanks for clarifying nkereina! So it's what I thought, good point if I really want to go no matter what, I should book something now. Problem is I am laid off work for who knows how long, and that will affect my ability to pay for a room! I'm already booked end of May, but I really don't know if things will be going by then. I'm praying they are though!

I re-booked my May trip for October (Halloween week). My May trip had the Sun and Fun discount at the Contemporary/ Theme park view. I booked the same resort and view, and with no discount the price went up $2,000. This is for 2 rooms, 5 day park passes and the Disney deluxe dining plan. The CM I spoke with on the phone did tell me there would be discounts that come out in May or June for October, but not sure how true that is.

DIsney242424 wow I can't imagine paying for a trip that went UP $2,000! Yikes! I have to believe there will be discounts. I am really thinking end of May is not going to happen, so Oct it will be for me!

melbattoast, lol I was not happy with the increase in price, but this is a family trip for us (7 of us total). Hopefully there is a discount that comes out to bring it down close to my original price (which I already thought was high).

I would be surprised to see discounts this fall. That is a very popular time for all the DVC members.
There is MNSSHP and Food & Wine as well.
However, with the drop in the economy and CoVid-19 scares, if this fall doesn't look like its filling, there will be discounts.
Its just a wait and see at this time.
Prior history is not much help now.

Not to be Debbie Downer but.... I would not expect Food and Wine to be anything like it has been in the past for 2020.
I'm not sure how they could reasonably do MNSSHP either.

How popular WDW will be this fall is hard to tell.
Until there is a vaccine I think WDW will be in full risk mitigation and may adjust events accordingly.
