Changing name on reservation

Our family booked multiple cabins for a cruise. Now DS is not able to go and my brother would like to have the cabin DS has reserved. The cabin is a catagory 5E but that catagory is not available to select now. My brother booked originally at the same time as the rest of the family, but booked a different category trying to get cabins close together.

Is there a way to change the name on the existing reservation?

You can change the name on a reseravation as long it is not the first person on the reservaton. If it is the first person , then it is considered a cancellation and new booking, in which case you will have a cancellation pentality (if any) and an increase in the cost of the room.

You have to keep at least one person on the reservation or it will be cancelled.

I confirmed this last week when we booked two cabins. So long as one of the original people on the booking is still on the booking then everything else can be changed. I booked my wife in one room and myself in the other and added our friends to our reservations, just in case they punk out. We can then just split the reservations and take two cruises instead of one without a cancellation. It doesn't matter what order the names are in on the reservation. It only matters that one of the original adults is still on the reservation.

I've always wondered, though, if one can add a third party to a room one week, then go in a week later and take the two original members off and keep the third, thereby bypassing the cancellation issue. I didn't think to ask when I was on the phone with DCL last weekend.

That said, I wonder if it does wind up being a cancellation if you can get on the phone with DCL with both interested parties on the line and cancel the reservation for the first party then immediately book for the second party...
