My friend is booked on a cruise in an inside stateroom. He has decided to switch to an ocean view now that it's available. It wasn't when he originally booked.

He booked in January. Will he pay prices that were in January or the current price listed today?

Thanks. Don't want to advise with wrong info and his travel agent is closed right now.

As long as he is changing categories on the same ship/same cruise, he'll pay the cost of that room on the day the original booking was made.

It's entirely possible that his TA will tell him different. Tell him to stick by his guns and have the TA confirm with DCL.

I did this on my current cruise and Disney priced it based on the date of the original reservation. It even kept the onboard booking discount etc. You have to do it as a change and not a cancellation and rebooking.

How would one know what the price was on the new category at booking? Sorry to hijack just curious as I always wondered how much prices have gone up when looking at cruises.

You can - as long as you booked it yourself - go into "change my stateroom" and it will give you the price for whatever category you choose to look at. It does nothing to your reaervation until you actually click on the change reservation button on the screen where it will ask for payments (if there is no additional cost from what you've already paid, you can choose no payment today) and that you accept the terms and conditions. You just click "cancel changes" and nothing has changed.

Cruisefish costs though right?

I don't think so. I haven't looked at in quite a while, but I have at times accessed the fare change info on Cruisefish. And I don't pay for access to websites.

Enjoy your cruise!

For some reason I thought there were some features you have to pay to use, but I'm not sure. That site confused me like crazy when I tried to explore it, so I gave up.

I do not find it user-friendly either. I guess that's why I haven't been to it for a while.

I've never had to pay for it.

If looking to see prices (past), go to Cruisefish and click on the "Finder" link in the upper right.

Scroll down the list on the left of the page to find cruise line (click to open) - ship (click to open) - itinerary of cruise you're looking for (click to open) - date of cruise

Click on date of cruise. Hover over the price in whatever category you're looking for. It will open a little window showing price and date that price was effective (most recent price change on top).

Can you still do this? It seems like I read somewhere that Disney had taken that option away. I always use Costco, so never check myself.

Yep. Lord knows I've been in there looking and changing enough for my Feb Wonder cruise.

1) you can only use the change option if you booked through Disney Cruise Line, otherwise you need to check with your travel agent.

2) you only need to pay cruisefish if you want advanced features such as being notified of price drops.

And 1 is the primary reason I won't use a TA. I like being able to control my own fate and not having to wait for someone else to do something.
