I will be there with my family the end of next month. My kids range in ages from 12-5, with two boys and two girls. I thought I had my food choices set, but I guess not.
I’m second guessing Akershus & O’hana. It seems to keep coming up that the buffet is not that great, but the atmosphere is cool. Also, O’hana keeps getting bad reviews, but we have never eaten there before. I’ve heard Trails end breakfast is great and 1900 Park Fare is good & fun for dinner. Thoughts on this?

Trails End breakfast is really good but not a good choice unless you are staying at the campsites. O’hana was really good when we went there a few years ago, but it seems like it can be hit or miss as several posters have said it’s not good. 1900 Park Fare is great for dinner. The food is very good and character interactions are great, although sometimes a little too over the top. I’m a ham so I love it. We haven’t been to Akershus yet but will be going in September. We are also doing Trattoria al Forno breakfast this trip on our pool day. We’re not big on non-park ADRs except on break days but When we’ve done them they’ve had really good food and the character meals are fun.

We have had breakfast at Akerhaus, mostly for the princess's interaction, I did enjoy the simple buffet, and the served items. Service was great. Overall I thought it was good.

O'hana's for us unfortunately has been taken off of our list. For several reasons,

First off, due to being able to see the fireworks you have a lot of guest sitting waiting to see the fireworks, so there is always a back up on the tables being turned, So do plan for a wait, and not 10 or 15 mintues, like a hour or more, even with ADR's, If you have a early dinner ADR plan on being rushed in and out, as the server are trying to turn the table before the table sitters for fireworks hunker down.

Second reason the selections on the menu are not varied at all, and pretty boring and not well done. And trying to get refills on items is almost impossible. I have a coconut allergy, and there is only the pineapple coconut bread, and no other bread choice. As well peanut sauce is pushed out with everything so if this is something that you or someone in your party has a allergy to this might not be the spot for you, the sauce is everywhere and you can not get away from it.

Thirdly the service the last time we went was absolutely terrible, I ordered a glass of wine and all I got was water, then the server did charge us for it, when i told him I did not ever get it, even though we asked twice about it. He said Oops, well sorry, I'll go get it now, I was like we are all finished eating, Ok he said and was gone.. We ended up having to ask for another server for help to see the manager, to get the wine taken off the bill. That was the last straw...

I would check out the buffets that offer more options, so that everyone can find something that enjoy. Tusker House is really well done and it's over in AK. Biergarten is another really fun spot to eat and see the show, that's in Germany over in the world showcase at Epcot. While not a buffet what about SCI-FI at DHS, super fun...

Have a wonderful trip. pixiedust:

Which is entertaining given that only a few tables have a decent view.

ThatThats's where being aware of the available food, along with individual likes/dislikes, comes in handy.

If you ever change your mind and return, ask them to get bread from Kona.

Between Akershus and 1900, I would pick Akershus. The venue is gorgeous, princess interaction is great and the food is very good. Akershus has a plated entree and a buffet with appetizer-like foods. I, personally, much prefer the plated (and family style) character meals as, at the buffets, I feel like I'm spending more time helping children navigate buffets or getting up and down to get more food, than spending time with family and characters.

I'm not a fan of O'hana at all - breakfast or dinner. I found the breakfast food to be incredibly salty and O'hana dinner has gone downhill considerably. When we were there in December they didn't even do any of the games with the children at dinner. Trail's End is good and there is a playground and the WDW stables nearby, both of which are a lot of fun. I would also consider Whispering Canyon at WL. The food is good (the skillet is a lot of fun!) and WL is gorgeous!

We are staying in the cabins at Ft. Wilderness, so that is why I am considering Trails End.

Thanks for your response! I actually already have Sci-Fi & Biergarten booked for our trip. We have been to Tusker House before, and really enjoyed it, but we wanted to try some new places.

Thanks! I keep thinking if O’hana were at home, and it kept getting this many negative reviews, I would not go. For some reason at Disney I am considering it. We have Whispering Canyon booked on our MNSSHP night. The kids requested this place! O’hana is currently booked for our last night on a magic Kingdom day, so I was trying to stay close. We are staying in the cabins at Ft. Wilderness.

Many love O'Hana, we had 2 girls, teens, they both did not like it, neither did anyone. But everyone is different. Would never go back though. We love Trail's End. after a tiring day in the parks, the atmosphere was so relaxed, the girls changed into tee shirts and had a great dinner, loved the horses, and Chip and Dale sing-a-long. We did Akershus last trip for breakfast. Not sure if the boys would enjoy it. Food is ok, fish options early in the morning were not desirable to us, but we ate fruit, eggs, bacon and bread. That's about it. I feel you go for the entertainment for this one. So if they want to meet all of them, I would go. They did not stay very long at our table, but again, we did not have small children. Another one to do once, and we will not be going back. The ones we return to again and again, Garden Grill at Epcot, all meals are good, Crystal Palace, MK, lunch, but breakfast is wonderful, 50's Prime Time at HS, but are switching it up this year and donig Sci-Fi and Hollywood and Vine since it is during holiday season. 1900 Park Fare Breakfast is great, we have had dinner there every trip, but skipping it for something new this December. If you do go to Ohana, and you have picky eaters, you are able to order something else for them, we did not know that until almost the end of the meal when my daughter ate literally nothing and it was almost $50 so they offered to bring her fruit, chicken nuggets and a dessert.

Then I would definitely consider it. Its good food, a lot of it, very relaxed, good sweet tea, I appreciate that being from the south, and there are things to do there. My girls were on the swings for like 30 minutes.

If you are at Ft. wilderness,, definitely do Trails End. Not a fan of sweet tea, so be careful when ordering.

My only two experiences at 'Ohana were pretty good. Our food was delicious and we had no issues requesting more food. Our only issue was that it was freezing! We sat right under a vent and I had to use my napkin to keep me warm. First trip we were a group of 11 and most recently in May we were a group of 4. We did have to wait a bit just to check in and our table was ready within 15 minutes. This was only our second time going but it was petty good to me. I would definitely go again.

Which is entertaining given that only a few tables have a decent view. I am glad I could entertain you, the second to last time we went we for dinner 8:15 ADR as that was the only time available for our parties size, and it was well after nine before we were seated... the hostess kept telling everyone as soon as the fireworks are finished we will be able to get you seated, and she was right, it was like a mass exodus, then they started seating people like crazy, then the servers were in the weeds.

ThatThats's where being aware of the available food, along with individual likes/dislikes, comes in handy. I completely understand that, but a lot of people think that its a normal buffet setup and are disappointed when it more like family style. I say this as I am helping my friends plan a family trip around 20 people. She thought that what was on the menu was more of what the specialties on the buffet would be, not the only offerings served family style. She said it said all you can eat, I thought it was a regular buffet, but once explain how it worked they choose not to go there as it really would not work for her family.

If you ever change your mind and return, ask them to get bread from Kona. - They will do this? Have you actually gotten them to get bread from Kona?

I doubt that we will return our server could not even bring a glass of wine, I could not imagine them going to Kona to get bread.

It would be nice if they created a Hawaiian luau buffet or a Polynesia themed buffet were you could serve yourself, and a variety of options showcasing the food in this area of the world.

I am one for whom 'Ohana is off the roster. I will say that for all of the negative reviews, and I had added mine to the list, there are plenty of positive ones. If you have wanted to dine there, give it a chance.

As to Akershus, my family likes breakfast. Again, dining is personal, so look at what is offered, and if your family generally likes it.

:confused3 Not you. The diners delaying their departure due to expectations of being able to see the fireworks. There are better places around the resort.

The original statement was, "Second reason the selections on the menu are not varied at all, and pretty boring and not well done." This is completely different from the type of service. Frankly, though, when the menu specifies (just) ten items, expecting something different is on the diner.

Well, not bread specifically. One of our party only ate "plain" food. 'ohana got her a steak from Kona.
