Changed dates and hotel!!

Hi guys,

Well I've just been impulsive and altered our dates from 15 aug 07 to 12 sep 07, couldn't get in standard room at Pop and they wanted over £200 for preferred room, so uprgraded to POFQ for £300! Amendment fee with First Choice was £80, we still get free dining.

My big dilema when originally booking was school hols vs school term time and a price difference of £1,000. We felt guilty as DD has just started big school year 7 and took the school holiday dates. However the reality is that loads have been off school on holiday already and I always thought yr 7 was much more important than yr 8 - which DD will be next sept.

I'm not using the excuse that coz others are doing it it's right, but £1,000 is an awful lot of money, please don't turn this thread into a right/wrong argument, I just wanted to tell you we're very excited!!!

Also - don't know anything about POFQ so any tips would be great!

How exciting.

You will love Port Orleans. It is a beautiful hotel. There is a boat that goes from the hotel to downtown disney and is so lovely in the evenings so be sure to make some ADRs if you can in Downtown Disney.

The swimming pool is great. We have stayed at both Riverside (when was Dixie Landings) and French Quarter and would say we enjoyed these stays more than Grand Floridian.

We are taking our DD13 (year8) out of school for seven days next week to add onto half term but the school have said this is an exception and I have promised not to do it again so we are booked for next August.

Sounds like you have done what is right for you, it is not for anyone to say whether you have done the right or wrong thing as it is YOUR decision and no-one else's.

From experience when our eldest started secondary school year 7 was more important due to the fact they are finding their feet in a new school environment and he seemed to have more homework than he did in year 8. Even now in year 9 there doesn't seem to be as much as I used to have. We will be taking youngest son out for a week near half term next year and he will have only just started. Don't like taking them out of school but what can you do if you can't get school holidays off work and like you said £1000 is a lot of cash towards another holiday.

It really makes me wonder why I went through weeks of wrestling with my conscience (that's not right spelling I'm sure!) over booking dates in the first place, others obviously don't consider the same factors as we do.

POFQ is a great choice! We stayed at this hotel back in 2004 and it has just as much Disney magic as the GF!!! It is a small resort - everything is just a few minutes walking distance! The boat ride to DTD is great! The rooms are beautiful too!

That's great news and I wouldn't worry about taking children out of school. My parents always did it with us, at least 3 times a year for our entire childhood and it certainly never did our education any harm. My DS is home educated now ( yay - we can holiday whenever we like) but was in school for two years and I took him out on occassion.

They're your children and you have to do what's right for you as a family.
