Change Resorts?

I am wondering if you could change resorts BEFORE you go to Disney World. Like say I book my trip in July and book Art of Animation for November but in September I decide I want to stay at the Contemporary instead, am I able to change hotels prior to going?

The reason why i am asking for a september change is that I might come into some $$ in september and I need to book the vaca by 7/28.
