I'm only curious because most Australians will never get to the $750K in savings mark.

At one time, 10 years ago or so, (maybe longer, when stocks were flying high) $1,000,000 American, of net worth was always mentioned. that certainly wasn't going to happen for a great number of people!

I'll be leaving here now. Need bloodwork to see if meds are working as they should.
Pleasant Dreams!

enjoying the "retirement" conversation ladies. I plan on retiring next year, start drawing on my little bitty substitute nest egg and continue doing some subbing plus administering the tests at our school. Princess, my DH will be working 'til 65 just hoping to come close to that golden amount.

Bobbi, my DS just graduated with a teaching degree (HS math) and is now in the market.........keeping our fingers crossed!

Good luck to him Kitty! Math teachers are in demand around the Maryland area!

Yes, best wishes to your son. I remember when I was looking, districts weren't in a hurry to hire, they kept you waiting. It was awful, but still, I worked in 2 very different NJ districts, and was sad to leave.

Thanks guys. He just got his first "no" so he's bummed. The teaching job he was hoping for was looking for a teacher who has already taught. :(

Kitty - Hope your DS gets his first 'yes' soon.
$1Million seems to be the 1st world landmark. Thanks for finding it Bobbi.
We'll be working until we're somewhere between 60 - 65 to get close to a nest egg.

Age wise, we're in the 65-70 bracket as we retire. Tom still enjoys his Job, but travel gets old. He MAY be going to 2 China cities at the end of July. It's only a week long trip, so that's a lot of flying time in the week.

As far as the $1 million, that had been the goal back then.

Your mum definitely comes first. Pity - it might have been a great opportunity.

What do you think of China's movie in Epcot? There is so much to see!

arrest

I think the last time I saw the China movie was in 2005. Not sure I remember it; but there is so much to see in China. DH and I did dream about going to China one time and we figured we needed 6 weeks to cram in everything we wanted to see.

My DSis has a godchild who married a Chinese national, Chen. They live in NJ, but her mother at least comes to US often, especially now that there's a grandson to visit! This connection to China has made DSis very interested in going there someday, so going to see the China movie is a must do when we are in Epcot together.

Kitty - Sorry to hear about your DS not getting that job! I'm serious about math teachers needed down here. Many start out as subs and get known to get their feet in the door and then hired. But of course, cost of living is sky high around the Washington metro area and teachers have to either live at home or share apartments. And first year teachers are cheap so they are often hired over experienced who are more expensive. Hopefully he will have more interviews and chances!

Thanks Kathy. He was really hoping for this one job because he had student taught and subbed in the high school but this was a middle school position. His GF works in the area so they want him to get a job in mid Michigan.......otherwise I would totally be suggesting out of state possibilities.
