Change Ohana to Captain's Grille?

My family is going in Nov. and I've read that the Osborne lights might be up when we are there. We would like to see them, but wouldn't have time unless we changed to a restaurant closer to HS. I looked at HS restaurants and restaurants at resorts in that area, and found Captain's Grille. The menu has things on it we would eat. Does anybody have any experience with this restaurant or have any other suggestions?
We will be on the DDP and only want to use 1 credit.

Captain's Grille is a classic hotel restaurant -- the type of place in which weary business travelers like myself regularly eat dinner alone. That isn't a criticism, but it's the reality. It's definitely not somewhere I would make a special point of trying. It's perfect for nights you don't have a reservation, or you're simply too lazy to leave your resort for dinner. Under no circumstances would I ditch a reservation at 'Ohana for Captain's Grille.

If you're looking for a restaurant in the Epcot area, have you considered Kouzzina on the BoardWalk? It's far superior and absolutely worth the trip.

I would never switch O'Hana for Captains Grille. They are just in 2 different leagues for atmosphere and food quality. I wouldn't recommend anyone eating at Captains Grille unless there are no other restaurants available. I would get a reservation at one of the DHS restaurants, or another TS on the Boardwalk.

We ate at Captains Grille in May. It was the worst meal of our trip, and we were on the dining plan for 2 weeks.

I have to agree...Captains Grille was our worst meal last trip too! We were there in September. It was the ONLY time ever in all my years of going to WDW that I demanded my money back (read as refused to pay). Also the worst service...my steak was cold & my veggies were limp & overcooked. I waited for the waiter to come back after taking my first & only bite & 30 min later he did. He offered to make me something else, but my family was already finished eating...I would recommend sticking w/ O'hana...it was by far our BEST meal w/ the best service on that same trip. I know everyone has different experiences, but that was ours. :)

(I know I should've gotten the manager or something, but I was in the let's see how long it's gonna take him to come back mood...LOL)

Ok so I guess Captain's Grill isn't such a good choice. I'm not sure where to eat. I really want to find a place to HS so we can see the lights without having to travel to far.
We like simple food and are kind of picky eaters. I've checked the menus at all the resorts near HS...Yacht Club, Boardwalk, and Beachclub and nothing appeals to us. I've check the restaurants in HS several times. 50's Prime Time sound ok, but I don't feel we'd get our money's worth being on the DDP. And I've heard really bad things about Hollywood and Vine. So I don't know what to do.

You would get your money's worth using a credit at 50's Prime Time. The food is "comfort food", it's already in the Studios theme park, and your time is just as valuable as money. You wouldn't be losing any value on your DDP by dining there.

I would never switch a O'hana's reservation for Captain's Grille...Ohana is one of the favorites !

I've never eaten at Captain's Grille.
I thought I read elsewhere on these boards that it was a pretty decent place for bkfst - or a quick steak for dinner, if staying in the BW area... Is this not so?
We'll be at BCV in Aug and I'll avoid it, if it looks like the posters on this thread are correct. Thanks for the head's up!

We love Mama Melrose's and the Cape May Cafe Clam Bake. Do either of those interest you? Also, 50's Prime Time Cafe is really good, too. If you are going in December, it's even better. There's nothing like comfort food when it is chilly outside.

I go to the Captain's Grille for breakfast. While you can order a la carte off a menu, I think the breakfast buffet is pretty good.

Another vote for the 50's Prime Time. We enjoy it and we have always felt that we got our "value" there. It seems that now you are stressing over where to eat, both location and value. If you want to be in HS for the Osborne Lights, which is truly special, I think dinner at the 50"s PTC is a great choice.
Enjoy
