Well, a quick synopsis is that my Mom wanted to take the grand kids to DL and offered to pay for hotel in Anaheim and all Park Passes. It was planned a couple of months ago that the trip would be from the 15th to the 26th of February (driving so in Anaheim from 17th to 22nd).

My mom has not been good health wise for a while and had an appointment with a specialist at the end of January. She was told a couple weeks ago to go ahead and go to Disneyland and have fun so she went and bought the DL and Universal passes.

Well, yesterday she was told by the specialist that she can't go and most likely my Dad won't be coming either so it will just be my sister and her 3 kids, my wife, son, and I, and my other nephew and his girlfriend that will be going.

Anyway, my question is, with my Mom staying home and not being part of this great trip (although she is still paying for hotel and passes), what would you suggest to do, buy for her that will help her feel a part of the trip? I know to take lots of photos (we don't have a camcorder) but what else?

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I hope she's feeling better soon.

I think the #1 thing she will enjoy is pictures, and a sillouette of the kids, or all of you.

I put together these "coffee table book" photo albums and my inlaws were in tears, literally! They came out so nice, and you can add captions, etc. Very inexpensive, too.

They arrived within days, and that was right before Christmas. There are at least several other sites that have the same thing, but snapfish was what I used. You can put as many pictures as you want. My in-laws said they had never recieved a better gift and my FIL (who lives on the other side of the country in Michigan) said that the book really made him feel like he was part of our lives in those pictures (we did a year of pics, from Christmas 2005 to right before Christmas 2006).

What do you mean by sillouette? I mean, I know the meaning of the word but is there something special at Disneyland?

As far as the books go, my wife is a very avid and talented scrapbooker and she has said a few times that if enough pictures are taken she will probably do a whole album just for the trip.

The coffee table book thing sounds pretty neat as well though.

There's a little place on Main Street where they cut out silhouettes of you and your kids or whoever you want. It's amazing how quickly they can do it. The silhouettes themselves are something like 7.00 each, it's extra for the frame.

I'm so sorry to hear that she won't be joining you on your trip. I think the ideas above are great and she will appreciate you thinking of her!
