We are leaving for Disney on Saturday. I brought my change jar in to the bank today to cash it in. I was hoping there would be at least $40 to fill our 8 nights worth of Mousekeeping envelopes. There was $86.32!! Woo hoo! I now also have enough for my bell services tip plus a Mickey bar or two!!!

I LOVE my change jar...almost as much as my remote control. I NEVER spend my change. I throw my change in there every night. Plus, we live in Michigan where we have to return pop bottles. I drink ALOT of pop. If I can keep my wife out of the jar, we'll probably have $200 when we go next year. That'll pay for the gas on the drive down.

My disney popcorn bucket it's just about to the top. I am going to take it to the bank on Friday. I hope I can get it half full by Oct.

I love my change jar too!

We also started taking out the $1 bills from our wallets at the end of the week and putting them in as well, and our savings just exploded --- we had over $600 saved in under a year to spend at Disney last Thanksgiving. The easiest savings plan ever!

WOO HOO!!! :cool1::cool1:

Last time I deposited our change jar, tere was $320 in it. It's up to about $75 now, so I'm hoping to hit $200 more by the tim eour trip rolls around in a few months.

BTW - we do have LOTS of change because we use all cash - no debit/credit, and only check to bills ;)

I was just looking at ours and wondering how much was in there.. hmmm.

Congrats! I am giving mine another week before I cash it all in. I love my change buckets, the disney motif on the popcorn buckets helps put us in the mood!

We have a plastic pail that resembles a beach pail with a lid that has a slit in it. (its actually a left over from fundraising for the Arthritis Walk). I put a label on the outside that says FLORIDA FUND. I am encouraging everyone in the house to put any and all change they get or find into the bucket to help with our incidental OOP costs, like tipping at CS, mousekeeping, LS for ME, etc. I hope we are able to get at least $100 in there before we leave.

We use an old Goofy coffee can as our change jar. We also put any money we get from returning bottles/cans in there.

Congrats on your easy savings in the change jar! It's always nice to have more than you expected - and you had double!
We use this Mickey-shaped cardboard box I got years ago and I cut a slit in the top. Thanks for the reminder to keep putting change in. I like the idea of putting all singles in too!

We too are saving our change and $1 bills. We soon almost have enough for Mousekeeping tips and we still have 9 months to go! It's fun watching our Epcot popcorn bucket get filled! The kids love tossing change in there too!

I've been saving my change too. I am averaging $8 to $10 a week. Easy money!

Change jars rock!! Here is MY version, kind of a change jar on steroids.... I asked my DH to make me a solid wooden box with a slot in the top....I can't get into it without having to dig for tools.....So the money is VERY safe because I don't go out into DH's shop if I can help it!
Here is the box as he presented it to me Christmas of 2007 (along with the Mickey and Minnie figurine :lovestruc)

And here is how it looked March of 2009 when we cracked it open....this was our souvenir and snack money, and we ended up with PLENTY! :cool1:

The secret to good savings is not being able to get to the money until your DH breaks out the power tools....:lmao:

Congrats OP on saving more than you thought!!!

We have a huge coke bottle bank and are up over $600 with 2 months to go. We set a goal to reach the words and have almost made it there. When i get change back we just throw the coins in there. My kids have even placed some of their dollars in there to help get more savings. They've also got got almost $100 each in Disney Dollars so they are really going to have fun and see how it pays off to save. I am so going to hate rolling the change though as my bank contracts the coin machine with coin star and charges 4.5% ti use it. No way are we paying to change our coins in.
