During lunch last week at Restaurant Akershus (Norway) I asked our CM about the rumored change that is going to take place. He told us that this restaurant will be switching from buffet style dining to an "order from the menu" style of dining on March 17th. This is one of our favorite restaurants and we will be greatly disappointed if this really goes through.

Oh i'm glad to know that! we have ps at akershus on the 17th! i don't want to go if it's not going to be a buffet. it's too bad they're doing this! akershus was one of our favorite meals!

Okay, someone who is at Epcot after March 17 has to at least stop by and write down the menu and share it with us when you get back!

One of the best parts was trying so many different kinds of foods. I'm not sure this change would go over well. I wouldn't know what to order :)

I mayy be the minority here... but I am glad they are changing to an ala cart menu.
I havent been to Akershus since '98, it is time to try it again!

laura :)

I'm with you, PieInYourEye,
The best part was getting to try a little of everything. Might go to Biergarten instead.:(

My Wife and Myself are so glad to hear this. We do not like to eat at Buffets so this is great news.

Oh that's too bad ... I guess the rumours were true. I'm still interested in seeing what's on the new menu though :p

OK...I guess we still have to wait till the middle of march to find out.

What things were on the buffet? We have never eaten in Norway and were considering eating there this trip. We thought that the buffet would be good so we could sample different foods, now I don't know what to do.

enjoy eating at buffet style restaurants. Fortunately, WDW has many, many non-buffet restaurants to choose from. The change coming to Akershus is disheartening for those of us who do enjoy a buffet. The cold side of the buffet had assorted breads, salads (potato, tuna, etc.), smoked salmon and mackerel, cheeses and other items. The hot side had baked chicken breast, meatballs, mashed rhutabaga, potatoes and other standard items. We always enjoyed it and the fare always seemed to be different each trip. Whether you liked unusual food items or regular fare, Akershus seemed to have it all and at a very reasonable price.

i agree! there's plenty of table service restaurants in wdw. akershus had a great buffet with a price that couldn't be beat!

Seeing that they were only charging 16.99 for a dinner buffet, I hope they will have the samed priced individual items.

Is it positive that it will be a regular menu or could they make it familystlye instead.

No - this was my favorite restuarant - I will be there during the change - I will try to remember to stop by and see it!

I didn't ask the CM to go into details, but he did confirm the rumor that it would be changing March 17. Earlier rumors had the hot side of the buffet becoming menu items and the cold side remaining as a salad bar. I'll be curious to hear what the changes are.

That's a real shame. We loved the buffet. When it first opened, we tried it and didn't care for the food. We felt at that time there wasn't much selection. We finally went back last summer and were very pleasantly surprised. There was so much to eat and all of it was wonderful! It was going to top our list of places to eat for this summer. I don't think we'll go if we have to order just one thing off of a menu. :( I hope that they change their mind on this one very soon.
Thanks for the heads up, though.

I can live without a hot buffet, but I really love the coldboard. Smoked Salmon and Brown chese are my favorites. I also like the herrings and shrimp salad and potato salad. See what you guys did...now I'm hungry!

I am also sad about the changeover. My family and I are going down March 25 so we will miss our last chance to eat at the buffet. In October when we were last there we ate lunch there twice. Hopefully they will keep the cold part. I too could live without the hot part. It will be interesting to check out the new menu.

This is mine and my husband's favorite restaurant. I see little point in going if it changes to just another order-off-the-menu restaurant. Does anyone else see cost-cutting all over this decision?
