Chances of getting a room at the Villas at Disneyland Hotel?

We are looking at the end of September for our first ever Disneyland trip. We do not own at the VDH villas, so it would have to be a booking at 7 months out.
I have no interest in staying "offsite" and having to pay for a room when we have DVC points. Any chance that we would be able to get a room at the 7 month mark, which is coming up soon?
Just wondering if I'm fooling myself, thinking that we will get a room. Everything hinges on getting the room. Once I get that, I will book flights and buy tickets.

Thanks!!

It is certainly possible, but the more days you need, the less likely it will be to get them. I decided on a 2-day trip in mid-February in late October. I was able to get a studio for one night (a Thursday) and waitlisted the previous night (Wednesday). The waitlist triggered about a week later. Since then, I have been looking for 1-bedroom for those 2 nights, and have not seen one available for even 1 of the 2 I've looked for at the Disneyland Hotel or at the Grand Californian.

Another option that I thought about pursuing if I couldn't get a DVC room was using DVC points for a "regular" room at one of the Disneyland hotels. This would use many more points, but would avoid a big out of pocket payment.

We have a deluxe preferred view studio booked for mid March for 5 nights (our home resort is Aulani). At the 7 month mark I got the original 4 nights we needed no problem. About 6 weeks later we decided to extend our stay by 1 night so I waitlisted a deluxe studio (both preferred and standard) as well as a studio at the GCH. Our waitlist for a standard deluxe came through within a week. Means packing up and moving one night but oh well. A few weeks later (probably right after the holidays) I decided to try and waitlist a deluxe preferred view in the hopes that we didn't have to move rooms for the last night and this past Monday our waitlist came through!
Sorry if that was wordy but all to say yes it's quite possible to snag at the 7 month mark depending on your dates.

Keep in mind the almost $3 a point tax. I’d say Sept is a fairly good shot for studios. There are hardly any 1-3 bedrooms and even less declared to inventory so that’s much less likely.

I got it!!!!! We moved our dates up by a couple weeks because I just needed to know and didn't want to wait any longer. 7 nights in a studio! Just what we needed!! I am so stinkin excited for our first trip to disneyland!!
I'm aware of the tax, thanks to those who mentioned it. It would not be fun for those who were not aware.

Congrats! You'll love it at DL.
