Chances of BWV standard at 7-months...

We just got back from WDW and we were pleasantly surprised that the kids (girls ages 9 and 11) liked Epcot the most. We are planning our next visit for June 2016 and I am looking into possibly trying out BWV, if we can, but I don't want to get our hopes up.

Here's the situation...

We are planning on a Sat-Sat stay either the second or third week of June and we know that we will be doing a split stay. We will do the first three nights in a studio and the last 4 nights in a 1BR. My original plan was to do the studio nights at OKW and the 1BR nights in a standard 1BR at AKV-Kidani (extra bathroom!). So now that we are considering the BWV, I am wondering which, if any, will be the better substitution...the studio nights or the 1BR nights??? It has to be the standard category due to our available points, but which is the better option? I figure that the studio will be harder to get, but it is only 3 nights. The 1BR I would assume would be easier to get, but it would mean giving up the extra bathroom and sleeper chair that we would have at Kidani.

Ideally, I would like the standard studio at BWV for the Sat-Mon nights, but what are my chances for a stay in June, booking at 7 months?

Hi Kristenrice,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but I think your chances are not good. There are very few of these rooms, and years ago when I did work Member Services, if BW members didn't call in at 11 months, RIGHT at 11 months, they were out of luck on Stnd View rooms. And you are wanting the busy summer kids-out-of-school time frame.

I'm an optimist, so try for it, but I would for SURE book a backup plan beforehand while you wait list to at least try to see if you might be able to snag a Stnd View.

Based on availability at 7 months out the last three years, you will have less than a 50% chance for the BWV standard studio even for just three consecutive nights but could get lucky; you should have a very good chance for the 1BR even if you wanted as much as a week (contrary to what is suggested above summer is actually a low to moderate DVC demand time). The 1BR at Kidani is the better room (100 sq ft larger than BWV 1BR, two bathrooms, larger balcony) but with only four the BWV 1BR is OK (the bathroom is actually two rooms, one with the large vanity and tub and the other with shower, sink, and toilet). The studio at Kidani has an issue to consider -- unlike BWV and Jambo studios which have the toilet and tub/shower in a separate room with a door, the Kidani toilet is in a separate room with a door but the the tub/shower is next to the vanity area and viewable by persons using the vanity or just walking past in the hallway. If you go the studio route at AKL I would suggest doing Jambo (studios at both Jambo and Kidani are about the same size)

I think I am being to optimistic because of my previous experience. I was able to get a 1BR standard for three nights in the middle of F&W at the 7 month window back in 2011. I think I just got lucky, but I still have that "I did it once, I can do it again" thought.

Our back up plan (actually, it is probably our primary plan) is to book the studio at OKW and the 1BR at Kidani. I believe the rest of our family (my parents, and my sister/BiL and their 2 girls) are planning on splitting their stay too, probably ending at AKV-Kidani as well so that wouldn't be all bad.

I just had to change my vacation by a week. I cancelled 4 nights that I had booked in a pool view studio at BWV. I was able to get 2 nights standard and 2 night pool/garden view. This is for just about 6 1/2 months away. I am sure someone was happy to get the one I cancelled because it was during food and wine. Now, our new dates are right after it ends. But, on the bright side it should be a quieter week. So, I do think it is possible. However I have never been in June, so I really can't speak from experience what it is like to book then. We have gone most often in November. But are also planning March.
