We have a trip coming up in a couple of weeks :woohoo: . We are booked at SSR but are on the waitlist for two nights at BWV. Is there any point in calling everyday until our trip? Do people cancel within a couple of weeks of their vacation? Do we call MS when we are in SSR to see if see if our waitlist is available? - Say call on Monday while we're there to see if Wednesday became available? -
Any advice appreciated!

Anything is possible. I once had a BCV waitlist come through within the last two weeks. It may not happen, but I would go ahead and call to see. The only obstacle you will be dealing with right now is the busy phone lines at member services. :scared1:

Most people will cancel 31 or more days out. Otherwise their points go into holding and it makes it tougher to make a reservation using them. Some will still cancel 1-30 days out, but those restrictions kick in and they have lost full functionality of the points.

That's what I thought! I spoke with MS today and he told me that it does happen - people cancel due to illness or other personal reasons that can't be helped. Sounds like it's not a complete lost cause so we will call everyday until we leave and call for a day or two when we're there.
At this point we are at SSR sun-thurs, BWV on cash fri-sat BWV on points sun. If we can make thurs BWV instead of SSR we'll take it.

I was waitlisted for VWL in early December a couple of years ago and I kept calling every day - twice a day while at Disney. Halfway through the 10 day trip VWL opened up and we switched from SSR to VWL. Bell services took everything out of the frig at SSR and our luggage, we went to the parks, came home to VWL around 5PM to find everything in our room. It was GREAT!!!. So keep trying even when you're there cause you never know.

I got a one bedroom standard BWV, mid-December, at six days out after months on the waiting list.

This gives me hope......

I just booked a last minute trip for 2/21-2/25 yesterday and was only able to get a studio at SSR (NOT my 1st choice!) for 3 of the 4 nights. They said that there was absolutely no availability at any DVC resorts for the remaining night. I am on the wait list for the last night at SSR, and preferably, for the full 4 night stay at either BWV or AKL.

Wish me luck!

PS - is there really a reason to call daily (or more often?) or is being on the wait list enough?

If the room is available through CRO - cash booking will they eventually put it back into DVC inventory for point booking? If so - when?

If it was inventory that was turned over to CRO at 60 days out, it might. But if it was given to CRO in trade for a non-DVC Disney stay (DCL, non-DVC resort, etc), points have already been used for that room. They can do it twice.

Once the 7 day mark arrives, all waitlists are canceled. If you still want to get that reservation, you have to call and hope you get lucky.

IMHO, there isn't any point to calling before the 7 day mark.

Right after New years week I wanted to add a night to a reservation at Saratoga, in a studio. I was on the waitlist. at 5 days I finally broke down, after calling every day, several times, and made reservations elsewhere. We checked out of where we were staying at 8:00 and drove over to Saratoga to check in and get our parking pass. Dh said "Maybe they will have our room ready" I said " No way, It's New Years week and I have been trying really hard to get a room". Guess What? Our room was ready, in fact, the CM Said they had several rooms available. I wish I would have kept trying.

We decided to visit WDW to see all the Christmas decorations at about 45 days prior. (DH didn't know if he could get the time off, so that is why it was a last minute decision). We wanted to stay at BCV or BWV. I didn't have much hope since the time before Christmas is so popular, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to call and ask. We were able to reserve the first night (12/11) and wait list the second night.
The wait list for the second night came through at 7 days. Then, we decided to add a third night on. After several days of calling each day, we were able to get the third night.

Those available rooms may have been CRO rooms and not DVC rooms to book. But they were open when you arrived so you got into the room early. Lucky you. We did check in once on New Year's Day and didn't get into the room until almost 6 because the guests in our room failed to check out until they were finally caught in the room around 4:15. That day there were several guests at OKW who thought they could just extend their stay by staying in the room.
