Ok I got the Champix and started it on Monday to quit smoking, today is my first day of two pills. Great news! No side effects :worship: No nausea, no more body aches than I generally have with the fibro, so do you think I will not have any side effects or will they start once my dose increases?

Also, it says you are supposed to smoke as normal on the first week, which I am, and my quit date is going to be Monday which will be one week on the Champix?

I am still having urges to smoke, so will I feel a decreased need to smoke as time goes on this week, or is it something I will notice when I stop smoking? KNIM? I hope this is clear.

Thanks.

Stephanie

Hi Brighteyes
I asked my brother and his partner,
they said smoke as usual for first week --it takes a week or more to get the desired strength of the medication in your body. He said you will gradually notice as the first week or two go by that you don't have the urge to smoke.
Crossing my fingers and toes for yah Hon!1
Hugs Mel

P.s
he did say that his sense of taste was effected--lol,,,told me not to eat some french fries --said something was wrong with them--actually they were fine it was just him.

Ok good I thought it wasn't working on me. Thank You. I will try for MOnday as I can sleep all day to fight off the urge if I need to.

Thanks for the good news.

I will keep you posted.

Probably hour by hour on MOnday, lol

I think it is the same as Chantix here in the US right? I am just weening off. It has been 69 days since my last smoke! This stuff is GREAT! I just went to Disney as a non smoker! Yeahhhh me!:cheer2:

Stick with it. I did the zyban thing a few years ago and have never looked back. I did buy some Nicorrette gum on my quit day and when it got bad I'd use the gum but I never did finish the pack. Good luck! Life is easier as a non-smoker.

:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes Thanks Guys, I am prepared to sleep or keep busy cleaning. I have like 7 packs of gum, 3 packs of licorice, and tons of water. If the Champix will cut out the cravings, the rest will be all in my head.

I have quit before and once you break the habit the physical cravings go away. I found it took about two weeks to get the "idea" of smoking out of my head to the point I was OK.

Another thought for next Monday: if you happen to live too far to walk to a store to get smokes, give your car keys to someone for the first day or two . Then you won't have any way to get smokes. I had DHs keys for a couple of days so he wasn't able to get any.

Also make sure you have put away all the asktrays Sunday night so you won't have to look at them as reminders. DH actually threw his ashtrays away the night before quit date, since he told me he felt confident he was going to be able to quit this time. And as I mentioned in the other thread, buy a bunch of gum to chew those first several days . DH tried several in the first few smoke free days and he liked Excel sugar free the most since it had a strong flavor to it.

I find if I am under stress I go to the Disboards and "DISOUT"(as DH calls it). Maybe plan some serious DIS time the first few smoke free days.

Good luck and just think of all the benefits of being smoke free. :goodvibes

The hardest thing will be when I am in my car driving to school or my volunteer placement. Just habits, that I have to change, I also have lots of celery I will be chopping up and carrot sticks.

I also might not be talking about not smoking, as that makes me think about it. I just like to try not to smoke and hopefully no one notices, cause if I just think I am not smoking and that is NORMAL then it seems not to be as bad. I hope I am making sense. Like when everyone says, Oh you're quitting, how long since your last smoke, you're not coming out with us for a smoke, etc etc. I just tell people don't mention it unless I do.

So I might not post on how I am doing that day depending on how strong I am feeling. Or if I do, I might just post "doing good" or something generic lol

Hi Stephanie,

I am currently on Champix as well. Tomorrow is my quit day.
I started week 2 today and I am really tired. That is the one side effect I have noticed. I noticed today that I have hardly smoked at all, the taste is disgusting. I have to brush my teeth and chew tic tacs after I have a smoke.
Good Luck :thumbsup2
I have 2 cigarettes left, then I'm done. I have the weekend off, just incase I need it.

Good for you....:cool1: :rotfl2: :worship: way to go. Sending you lots of :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes If the smokes don't taste as good hopefully that will be incentive also. Let me know how it goes. I will be checking and sending you all the :goodvibes :goodvibes I can. Good luck.

I notice when I do not smoke I am really tired as well. No energy. Then again I am always tired if not exhausted, which dr. told me is the fibro. So I am planning on having lots of naps on Monday. I already get 7 - 8 hours sleep but find by 1 or 2 in the afternoon I am exhausted.

Keep up the good work.:cool1: :thumbsup2

Can you buy this in the store or is it presciption? DH and DS have been on me for a while to quit, and sometimes I really want to, but others I really don't! I would definately think about trying this if it is recommended strongly.

Hi Dutchsmommy

you have to get a perscription for this. Champix does have a web site --google--good info.
hope this help
hugs Mel

I am weening off because I read some info online about some people having withdraw symptoms when they stopped taking it, so my Dr. had me ween off instead of cold turkey. Anyway ~I have not taken any chantix in a few days and feel just fine. Good luck!!!!

It is a script, about 58.00 for two weeks for me, which is expensive. I can get a carton of smokes for about 10.00 from the reserve but not smoking is worth it to me.

I liked smoking, but was told to quit for health reasons. I like smoking, and enjoy it even though it is not good, but I know I have to quit. I just really haven't had the urge to. Instead of a craving, it is more like a thought I am having.

I had 3 yesterday and so far 1 1/2 today. It is mostly getting over the habits that go along with smoking like my Timmies. My last tradition one more time.

I am going to get my Timmies to have my smoke with it since tomorrow is my quit day.

I have had no side effects with it, maybe a few dreams not nightmares. No naseau, nothing so that is great.

I highly recommend it. I was a chain smoker at school. Sometimes I could smoke a half pack or more in a day, sometimes less.

So how is it going so far?? :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Still quit??

So far, so good. I actually threw out my last 2 Friday night, I just thought what was the point.
This Champix really helps control the withdrawls, so far I am just really tired. The mental aspect is a little challenging, but I was happy today not to be going outside in this weather!!!
No one in my family has noticed either. I only smoke outside, so I am thinking that is the reason. I did point it out earlier to them all though.
Good Luck to you tomorrow!!!! Keep us posted!!!!

Congrats!!! How did you ween yourself off it? The doctor and Pharmacist told me anytime after 2-12 weeks when I thought I didn't need them anymore just to quit. Your way might be better!!!
Thankfully my drug plan covered the Champix, they only gave me the starter pack then I go back this week for the rest.
