Challenged Accepted! Our Year of Disney with a toddler 2/27 x2

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I thought if you used those one day passes and went through the turnstile you could upgrade them. I didn't know there was a ticket that couldn't be upgraded. Bummer.

Mary Ellen, I think the problem is that they were comp tickets. Those cannot be upgraded. Any purchased ticket can be upgraded at any time, but you have to go through the turnstiles at least once to retain any kind of discount you may have gotten. As long as they are used once, Disney will credit you the current gate price of the ticket, not the price you actually paid. Hope that makes sense!

On to the updates...

Seems like a pretty busy travel day! But that all tends to go out of your mind as soon as you head inside those magical gates, doesn't it? :goodvibes

The condo looks wonderful. I would have been pretty upset about the rocker myself, if I had specifically called and asked about that. I hope it didn't affect your trip at all!

Can't wait to see what y'all got to do on your first night!

Seriously, Gavin sounds like one of the best car travelers on the DIS! I am very jealous; Landon forces us to drive at night while he sleeps. He loses it if he's stuck in a car seat for too long.

Your condo looks wonderful! Plenty of room and a very cozy atmosphere. I have to say, I might consider WH in the future because of what you said about the rocking chair.

In May, it took us almost an hour and a half to get Landon to bed because we didn't have our chair. Even nursing him didn't help. Eventually, Alex had to take him outside to a balcony with chairs to rock him!
So I completely understand the importance of that rocker! Smart thinking on your part to call and double check.

Whew, 17 dollars for parking. Thank goodness for annual passes, you'll get your money's worth from them with parking alone.

Gavin's dimples are so adorable! :goodvibes I was excited for you guys when you were pulling up under the MK gates!

wow - after all that your "are we there yet?" comment seems apropo!

Very cute that you have the year-over-year pictures of Gavin in Nemo shirts!

Bummer about not being able to upgrade the tickets like you thought you could. I guess it makes sense since they were comp tickets and not ones you purchased but still stinks that your plans were messed up. At least you got your $17 refunded for parking! ... and hay, you were in the Magic Kingdom!

BTW - your condo looks pretty nice - I know you wanted the rocker but at least in the photos the furniture looks nice

Yay, you made it to Disney! :cool1:

The condo looks really nice! Too bad it didn't have the rocker, though.

Awww, that is a really big bummer about the tickets not being upgradable, though! I would have been  And, really, what does a non-local do with a 1-day park-hopper anyway? :confused3 All I can think of is maybe use it on the way to/from something else in Florida (like a cruise). Weird. Sorry that you lost your FP+ reservations too.

Love all the Gavin pictures! Crazy how these kids are growing up!

You are almost inside those gates!! I wouldn't have thought about those tickets not being upgraded to an AP as well. I still have 2 1-day PH tickets that I've never used and had forgotten we'd gotten a few years back.

Those are sdorable selfies of you guys on the tram. :)

Your condo is spacious! Bummer about no rocking chair though.

$17 for parking. :faint: That is pretty step! Ouch! I remember the first year I went there in 2002 and stayed off site and it was $10.

Your condo looks lovely. I do have to agree that the extra space is awesome. We stayed at a timeshare called the Polynesia Isles last June and it was wonderful to have all that space (not to mention that I paid about $100 a night with tax for it).

Gavin is just too cute and he really does look like a young man in that one photo of him using his new plate.

I think the reason it could not be upgraded was because it was a comp ticket. I just wish I would've thought of that! Parking has really increased over the last 10 years, almost doubled now. But when you figure in how much you are saving per night staying off site vs on, an extra $17 a night for parking stuff puts you ahead.

Thanks! He's growing up too fast!

Yes I wish I would've consider that since they were comp tickets they would not be upgradable. Oh well!

You're right. All the stresses of the day melted away as soon as we were there! Luckily Gavin did fine without the rocker but I definitely would've picked another unit had I known.

I always say that Gavin more than makes up for being a terrible sleeper in other ways :)

We absolutely loved Windsor Hills. I have nothing negative to say about it or staying off site in general! That stinks that you had so much trouble getting Landon to sleep without a rocker.

We are definitely coming out ahead with the AP! On this trip alone it saved us $119 on parking. In December we will save at least that much again.

Gavin's dimples are so adorable! :goodvibes I was excited for you guys when you were pulling up under the MK gates!
Thanks! That was an awesome feeling!

Definitely felt like saying "are we there yet" all day, lol. Actually it wasn't so bad on the way there, on the way back though... another story :)

I think I was more mad at myself for not checking or thinking to check to see if those tickets could be upgraded. Oh well, I guess eventually we will find a use for them?

It was really nice! I was bummed about the rocker but the new furniture looked so much nicer.

Yay, you made it to Disney! :cool1:

Not having the rocker was definitely a bummer. Luckily it wasn't an issue and Gavin did fine without it.

I have no idea what we will ever do with 1 day park hoppers, LOL. I can't see us going to Disney for one day only when it's about a 16 hour drive each way. Would not be worth the cost of airfare for 1 day in Disney, haha. I also can't see us going to Orlando for a week and only doing 1 day at Disney but who knows. It has no expiration so I guess we will eventually figure it out. I guess if we do a cruise out of FL that would make sense to do a day in Disney before or after.

Thanks! I keep telling him not to grow up but he's not listening!

So close to being in the MK! Like Dugette said, what does a non local do with 1 day park hoppers? I'm sure we will use them eventually just not sure when.

Thanks! Luckily Gavin did fine without the rocker. We really enjoyed all the space in the condo. I can see why you love staying in 1 and 2 bedroom DVC villas!

Looks like I missed your arrival updates last week!

Sounds like a successful shopping trip at Publix and drive-by dinner pickup.

Wow, the condo looks really nice. And big! Bummer about the rocking chair, though. :(

I LOVE the tram selfies!

What a bummer about not being able to upgrade your tickets to save some $$$ on your APs. Also a bummer about your missed FPs.

Now I'm going to catch up on the rest of the updates you posted.

OK. Caught up now!

:cool1:

I'm glad your FP at Space and Pooh worked. I had wondered about that when you said you lost them...

Sounds like a smart choice to ride Pooh to get "in the mood" for your dinner. 10 minutes late for dinner is not bad at all. :rolleyes1

I'm so glad to hear the interactions with Pooh & Friends were great, and that everyone seemed to enjoy the food.

Good idea to bail and go back to the condo to get some rest for your first full day. I hope you are able to get the FP+ things working. My spidey senses are telling me that maybe Guest Services needs to get involved...

:goodvibes

Those are some nice family pics from that fist PP even if the castle isn't in them. And love that you have the 2013/2014 people mover pics!

Loved you funny nursing story - probably b/c we can relate and our kids have nursed on so many rides at Disney!

Aw, I think there must have been some dust in my eye as I read about the Pooh encounter (ok, taken out of context that comment reads really poorly).

Can't wait for you next update - and whatever structure works for you works for us!

It all makes sense. I didn't realize you couldn't upgrade a comp ticket. That was my mistake. Bummer. Are there any ticket types you can't upgrade? :confused3

Yay for Crystal Palace.:thumbsup2 Looks like a fun dinner and its always good when a little guy eats well! Great pictures of Gavin with the characters! What a fun way to kick off your trip!

Nothing better than doing a ride with teenage kids..cough, cough. :rotfl2:

I love your selfies - they turned out great!

How did Uncle Brandon's school year go? Was he happy at SU?

What a great first night at MK! Well, except for those funky CMs. Seriously, cut the attitude! But I'm glad you didn't let them ruin your mood.

Such cute family pics on the TTA! I was so relieved that they pushed back the refurb as I really would have hated to miss riding that on our trip.

Wow, Gavin sure did a number on the food at CP. :thumbsup2 Hopefully he will keep that up so when you start paying for him at least he will eat his share. He was so cute with all of the characters!

I had to laugh when you said he is too tall for the changing tables in the bathrooms. He is SO tall!! You can definitely see which of his parents he takes after in that regard. :goodvibes What a cutie pie!

Guess Disney worked up an appetite with Gavin! All that walking around the park, I'm sure. :goodvibes

Sorry the FP+ situation did not pan out for you guys that night. I've never attempted getting any in the afternoon, because I'm always afraid there will be nothing left. Guess that's the case.

Either way, I think you all accomplished a good bit before your dinner. Peoplemover, Space, Carousel, and Winnie the Pooh. In the land of toddlers, that's a lot! :rotfl2::lmao:

Wow, seeing the comparison on the Peoplemover makes Gavin look so grown up compared to your 2013 trip. Can't believe he's more kid than baby now!

Definitely a spin on the Pooh ride was a great idea before dinner! Gavin's interaction with Pooh at CP was adorable. I've only had breakfast there so I was glad to see some of the selections that they have for dinner.

Ahhhh the secret door to the Dream Suite.... As you walk through the castle, its the first door on the right if you are entering the castle.

Sounds like a great first day at MK - other than not being able to book FP+. Staying tuned to see how that worked out. :)

Love all the walking-from-behind shots! Also, nice Photopass pics on Main Street. That's sad that they lost some of your pics this trip, though. :sad2:

Frustrating FP+ kiosk experience! I'm wondering if it was hard to find things available due to the rain? That was our experience - so many of the headliners closed that the things that normally don't have lines were packed. At least you got to ride the Peoplemover, though! It was down for refurb by the time we got there. I like the year-to-year comparison pictures! Funny story - so, if you want to get Gavin down for a nap at MK, I guess the Peoplemover is the way to go. :rotfl:

Glad you were able to use your Space Mountain FP+ and Rider Swap! :thumbsup2

Sounds like Gavin was enjoying the independence of walking on his own at Disney too!

Only 10 minutes late to an ADR? Ah, that's pretty much "on time", I'd say. ;)

Hey, he has a theme-appropriate placemat! :thumbsup2

Awwww, I'm so glad that Gavin had such great character interactions, especially with Pooh!!! So sweet. I know exactly how you felt. Such sweet moments.

Food at CP looks very tasty too (we've only done the breakfast there).

Character meals can be pretty chaotic with all the shoving-down-food-between-characters, but they are a great value with an under-3-year-old, for sure! :thumbsup2

Argh, errors with MDE! Hope you got some FP+ selections! And, mmmm, midnight snacks!!!

Super late joining in - SORRY! I didn't see a TR from you until now. Just read through all the updates though. I can't believe how big he is now - WOW!! He is sooo adorable too.

I was going to say those FP's would still prob. work since we found a bit of a work around regarding MB's and FP's on our recent June trip...but I'm glad you figured that out!! Sounds like a nice evening overall in MK but I can imagine you were pooped! Love Crystal Palace and the interaction!

Loved the PP pics too despite some mean PP photographers! ugh! And the walking to the castle pics - so cute. :lovestruc

Catching up on a few updates!!

What a great rental - so much space!!

What a perfect evening at MK --- looks like you got just enough riding and eating in to feel like you are finally in Disney! And, love the CP interactions...nothing better than Pooh n' Pals! :goodvibes
