Challenge: Can WDW vacation be done for under $2,000??

I think you can do it! The Swan and Dolphin have a special rate for educators. My sister and sister-in-law are both teachers, and the rate was $129/ nite during the summer last year. Cheaper than the value resorts at the time. I would check to see if it is offered during the time you are planning to go.

I did a quick check for both on-site and off-site hotels. Found a hotel and car for $485 on Travelocity and 7 day non-hopper tickets for about $904. Similar res through Disney was $1,881 on-site, Magical Express and 5 day tickets. Dates checked for 4/4 through 4/10/2010, 2 adults and 2 children over 9. So yes, you can say,"I'm going to Disney World!"

Thanks for all the advice. My crazy DH has changed the plans and we are going at CHRISTMAS TIME!! YIKES!! We are set for 12/30 at POP.

I'm really excited but worried about the crowd level. We are going to surprise the girls with this on Christmas morning. YAY!!

You could also look at renting points from a DVC member. I did this for my "extra" trip this year and it cut my hotel pricing in half. I found a room at POFQ for like $800 for the 3 days but was able to rent points to stay at OKW for a little over $400. If you don't mind staying at OKW or Saratoga Springs, you may be able to find points for fairly cheap. Try the DVC rental board here. They are great!

How old are your kids? I have done years for 1,500 years past before DD turned 10, after that for the dining plan and tickets the price goes up.

We did an early May trip for 1200 staying at All Star Movies, park hoppers, and no dining plan but that was when my oldest was 5 and youngest was under 3...

How exciting and what a wonderful Christmas suprise for your girls!

Although I prefer onsite, I'd compare on vs. off for this trip.

Will all 4 of you share one hotel room? That gets hard, but many folks do it.

I actually would start looking at rental car prices, that way you can compare around. When you see something good, you can get it.

The tickets are a big chunk of the cost. We always do park hoppers, but that will add $200 to the trip for 4.

I think you can do it, but you need to really plan. Onsite, you don't need a car. Offsite, you can get a condo and cook a bit, but you need a car.

For a busy time, I'd really try onsite. Or really close like Downtown Disney. That is a great area.

Good luck!

I think you are my twin. Also in NJ and a teacher. Leaving 3/31 at night from JFK b/c it os cheaper and flying into Tampa (1 1/2 from Disney). Round trip for 4 on JB is $1000.
Check about using voucher for a one way ticket and fly the other way on another airline. Jbreturn flight from tampa to newark on 4/8 is $114 pp.
Next, staying offsite. Booked a condo w/ a kitchen since I am planning on doing breakfast and packing some lunches. Have same days left on passes but thinking about getting new onces for the 7 days.

Yes,so far rental cars are expensive. Going to keep checking.

Easily, for 3 of us if we would have booked at the value resorts, it would have cost us just under $1000 for three people for 7 nights with tickets...no park hoppers or dining plans though...flight prices vary depending on where you are, from MN it's $620 for all of us. I booked at a moderate for 7 nights, regular dining plan (medium plan) and park hoppers for every day and my bill was $2200 without flights. So yes, very doable for two people...
