Is it ever good news?

I got a certified mail delivery notice. Since I wasn't home I have to pick it up available tomorrow. I'm leaving town tonight so I won't be able to get it until Monday. Now it is going to be on my mind all weekend. I have never gotten anything via certified mail that was ever good. Anyone else?

Oh, I tried to input the tracking number on usps.gov but it says it can't be tracked online. :(

Sometimes it will state the ZIP CODE of origin. See if that is on the notice and google the zip code....that might tell you something.

There is nothing on there to indicate the sender at all. :confused3 Sender name has "--------" under it.

It's not necessarily bad news. For example, at work, we send certified letters because we have to have proof that we sent it for our records. I just got a certified slip out so I could tell you what the back of it says:

Certified Mail Provides:
*A mailing receipt
*A unique identifier for your mailpiece
*A record of delivery kept by the Postal Service for two years

maybe you won a contest!:cool1:

More likely is that it's a soliciation from a credit card or mortgage company.

It can be good (contest winnings), bad (bill you completely didn't even know you forgot three years ago), or annoying -- I was all worried once and went after the mail and it was some type of solicitation - I can't even remember for what now but I was not happy!

I believe it is the option of the Postman to write the zip code of origin on the notice.

My engineering business deals with certified mail ALL THE TIME. We have to inform abutters when we are working on land in or around their property.

Don't worry, have a fun weekend. Happy 4th. :yay:

I hate 'em.. & why is it by the time you find out you have one the post office is closed

My roommate got a certified letter a few weeks ago. She freaked out all weekend about what it might be.. turned out to be a refund check from her auto loan.

Most of the certified mail we get is from the town planning board, about someone planning on making significant changes to their abutting property or the town making certain changes to roads.

My DH freaked out one weekend because we had the notice in with our mail. Guess we weren't home to receive it. Anyway, he was a basket case. Turned out to be a lawyer for the homeowners across the street indicating they were doing a survey and they had wetland property or something. But they had to notify all the neighbors within xxx amount of distance.

Any business that might be required to provide proof of deliverty to state regulators, etc. often use Certified Mail (cheapest option that is trackable); banks, insurance companies, credit card companies, loan/mortgage companies, etc. Not necessarily bad news at all. Could be good news, in fact.
