Are you doing anything special to get ready for this upcomming cold snap?

Yes folks we are going down to 28 tomorrow night, so go ahead and celebrate!:scared1:

I'm not going to do a thing, let happen what happens. I've tried the burlap game and it just doesn't seem to work, everything dies back, but always comes back in the Spring.

Are you doing anything special to your plants?:confused3

Wow, 28? It's 33 here right now and folks are getting ready for the outdoor game between the Sabres and the Penguins. But 33 for us is actually on the warm side.

Yeah. We've hauled out the sheets. We'll be covering the roses, bringing in the potted herbs and plumeria and hoping for the best on the others.

Mostly though, I'm just looking forward to some cold! :cool1: I know visitors won't be very happy, but it's not going to last long.

Do you think I need to plug in the block heater? LOLOLOL!

We are 3 hours South of Orlando and they are forecasting temps of 26 degrees here. All the potted plants are going into the garage. The yard plants are covered by the HOA so they are on their own.

Try Christmas lights (assuming they are not LEDs) under the blankets. I've done it on my apple tree here in the spring when it blossomed too early.

The Crepe Myrtles will be fine, they are in winter mode anyway.

I think my Oleander will be fine also.

I am a little concerned about my hibiscus, but I have at least a dozen of them, oh well, hope they do OK.

The only annuals I have in the yard right now are petunias, hopefully they will fare through the frost OK.

Stay warm everyone!

I think my Oleander will be fine also.
Oleanders look upon a little frost with utter disdain -- they will be the remaining flora after the end-times -- complementing the remaining fauna: cockroaches and politicians.

:rotfl2: That's what you get for making fun of people living in colder climates.

Although, I still say that 28 isn't really cold. I was out in a t-shirt, and light jacket at about the same temperature today. (Of course, I was also working up a sweat shoveling.)

You know it's 28 F right! :rotfl2:

The temp isn't too bad tonight, but it is very, very windy! Tomorrow is supposed to be the worst!

This wasn't in the sales pitch when I moved here!:confused3

I love the bit of cold that we are getting! I work in the tourist industry and everytime it gets cold I get at least 10 tourists saying "This is Florida! It's not suppose to get cold here!"

Yeah, it was 18º F this morning when I got up, the sun is out now, (WOW!).
Last year when I was living in Orlando- oh I miss it-All my neighbors would wrap everything up in the cold. But I never did, and yes, it all grew back!
Good luck to you down there today, I know your not used to it.... :)

Where did all this cold weather come from....oh forgot we suck so bad here in the south we pulled it in from New York.:rotfl2:
JK Rick

Is that what happened? Well, PLEASE stop it ok? It's really cold and getting colder tonight!

Where are my 80 degree temperatures? :sad1:

I shoveled over 8 inches of snow off of my car so I could go to work this morning. So please make sure you all warm it up a little down there before we arrive on the 15th.

Hey kids, dont forget if you have a pool to turn the pump on overnight!

Slightly OT: Do you mean that you would normally turn the pump off? My father used to have a pool and the only times the pump was off were when it was being cleaned. If the pump stayed off for long lots of stuff started growing. Is this a side effect of it being a 4-month/year pool? Are you able to stabilize the chemistry better when your pool is open year-round?

Back OT: I see your current cold snap as a good sign. I've checked the historical weather data for Orlando and it appears to go below freezing once every winter. So, fingers crossed, it should be warmer when we're there in 2 weeks.

When I was growing up, our pump was on a timer so it wouldn't run overnight. Saved a LOT of money on the power bill.
