Cell phone use in parks

Has anyone here who uses Cingular taken their cell phone to Disney? Can you tell me whether you were able to get reception there? How about Verizon? My family is hoping we can use our cell phones to keep in contact with each other when we split up in the parks, but I had read somewhere that cell phone coverage was spotty.

Last time I went I took my cell phone and it worked great! We use Verizon Wireless

Thanks, Brenda! My mom and dad's phones are Verizon, so it sounds like we should be able to rely on those even if Cingular (what DH and I have) won't work

Last November DH and I were at WDW with Cingular and it worked fine! My Mother had passed away at the end of August and because of numerous issues it was important for me to be readily available for decision making. I received a call eating lunch in LT, on the back lot at MGM, at CBR, DTD... the list goes on. Anyway, the only problem I had with reception was a small area driving back to CBR.

Verizon didn't work in rooms the moderate resorts or the value resorts for some reason...It was strange...I had to go outside to use the phone.

But in the deluxe resorts, I never had a problem. I find that amusing

DH & my dad each had phones with Cingular that ALWAYS had reception no matter where we were.

I had T-Mobile and had service almost everywhere with the exception of a few rides inside, like Soarin' or RnR/ToT.

I found that once I got down there I updated the phone (using the *228). After that it was great!

Well, I frown strongly upon people using their phones during rides... I only used mine at the hotels and if the rest of my party disappeared somewhere due to excitement.

Oh, I forgot about *228!! I'll try that in February when I return!

Be careful of raoming charges. We had free long distance, but weren't on a national plan, so we got hit with roaming charges bigtime when we got home. Made it expensive....

Ummm...Yes...I am clueless. My DH just informed me that we have T-Mobile. I have no idea why I didn't know that!

You shouldn't have any problems with T-Mobile either. I used to have them and had good service while in Disney. Pretty much all major carriers will have good coverage in the greater Orlando area.

I have used my phone from verizon without a problem at ASMO Dal section 3 floor, 4th floor.
I have also used it at Pop on 1st floor 50's, 3rd floor 50's, 4th floor 50's and 2nd floor 80's without a problem.
