cell phone service on Western Cruise?

where do you get cell phone service - I am assuming Key West but is there anywhere else?

We have nextel.....took the 04 Thanksgiving Western....didn't stop at Key West (2 at CC). We always lose ceel service about 3 hours into sailing and 3 hours before we get back to port but, Thursday night after dinner (late seating) at approx. 10:00 p.m. ship time someone on the elevator said "hey we have nextel service" so we were able to call family and wish Happy turkey day. Somewhere in the Bahamas......

You didn't have it at Cozumel? I was thinking they might have service there but wasn't sure.

Every Cell Phone provider is different and it changes all the time.

Best bet is to call your provider and ask. They can tell you where they have service and what it will cost. This can even vary from one plan to another with a given provider. So information that you get from other posters here may not apply to your provider and your plan.

We called before leaving on the Eastern, gave them each port and they told us whether or not they had service and whether or not it was included in our plan. Turned out one port had new service and we had to get a software update to our phones in order to use them there. We were able to arrange for the update over the phone as well and we were all set to go.
