So, I had a argument with a good friend yesterday.
We got together to have breakfast at a local diner. My friend then proceeded to spend the entire time on her cell phone. I mean, one phone call after another. She doesn't even stop to give her order to the waiter simply points to the item on the menu.

After the 3rd phone call (and no these were not business calls) I said K, why did you want to have breakfast with me if all you're going to do is talk to other people. I guess the person on the phone must have heard me because next thing I hear is my friend saying "No, I'm not busy right now"

So I got up and left. problem was, I drove so my friend was stuck with no ride home and we're in the middle of lousy weather.

I guess two wrongs don't make a right, but are we so obsessed with our cell phones that we can't have a live discussion?

Sorry I find that so disrespectful and rude. Am I over reacting?

You go girl!

Now the PC side of me has to say "Oh, that poor friend of yours was stuck without a ride:guilty:". But then again, she could probably catch a ride from the person on the cell phone:rotfl2:

I would have done exactly what you did. The comment "No, I'm not busy right now" would have been the point I got up and left, just like you did.

My cell phone etiquette....it stays in the purse when I'm out with friends.

I keep my phone away when out with friends...if it's a good friend, I may answer a call from my mom or boyfriend (who prob. know I'm out but may have a quick question) but I don't ignore the friend...lol usually they have a message for me to pass along ("Tell your mom I can't wait to see her next week!") Aside from that....no way! I would never carry on a lengthy conversation while being out!

Your friend is rude and I would have done the same thing. I would also make it a point to not have any time for her anymore. Her life is just sooooo busy and you obviously are not important enough for her to stop for a half hour to eat with.

Your friend was beyond rude. I'm guessing you're going to get all sorts of grief from her and any common friends she gets on her side, but I think you were 100% right to get up and leave at that point.

No, you are NOT overreacting.

It was incredibly rude of your friend to accept a phone calls while you were having a meal out. It doesn't sound like these were emergencies or anything.

You did nothing wrong and if you make a date to have a meal together....you deserve to have some good uninterrupted talking / catching up time.

I LOVE it!!!!!!!:lovestruc

I think that was awesome... especially after she told the person on the phone she wasnt' busy!! what the heck!!

Is this the first time that she had done that? It so, I would not have left her. If not, I would have not gone. She was rude and so were you.

you are not overreacting. She was beyond rude in more ways then one! You were not in anyway, and I have to say you go girl too!

Good for you Eliza! I hate those dang cell phones and people thinking they're so important. Now if you're being called to surgery I get it, but c'mon can't even have a bite to eat with a friend. I can't say I'd of actually had the balls to leave, but if I did I would've too, but I"m a big chicken.

Yep...that's what I would do. A quick..."it's my DD calling I need to answer this" but that's about it!

I think you did the right thing, that would be very irritating.

Sometimes when my aunt calls me, she will start talking to her roommate. Her roommate sees she is on the phone. It's usually stupid stuff, stuff that could wait until she's off the phone. It sometimes takes all I have to not just hang up.

No, I would've found it very rude as well! I don't mind if someone answers a call while eating out or anything when it's something important because I know my mom calls, but I try to make it short and then I put my phone up. I hate it when people text throughout the whole meal and lay their phone on the table so they can easily access it to text 2 minutes later. I keep my phone with me incase of emergencies but if the call is very long, I apologize to them.

I work with youth and had to ask a young lady to put her phone away during COMMUNION. It took all my patience not to throw the stupid thing across the room. (the phone, not the girl...) I would have left, too. It's rude to ignore people who are WITH you to talk to someone else on the phone.

DH drives me crazy with constanst texting/emailing with work (after hours and weekends) on his Blackberry. Everywhere we go. I swear its going to "disappear" someday, but work would just provide him with another one.

He doesn't talk or listen while tapping away on the keys, so its like being there by myself anyway.

I don't get why people do this, either. Maybe the proper response is to whip out your own phone, CALL them, and carry on your conversation across the table through your cell phones? :confused3 At least that would keep their phone busy!
