All day long my cell phone has been ringing, but when I pick up there is no one there, or if I don't answer it just goes to missed call not voicemail. I don't know the phone number, so I have no idea who it is. So in an effort to find out who it is calling me I dialed the number from my home phone. Guess what? A recording says that it is a number no longer in service. So, can someone tell me why I keep getting calls on my cell phone?

Very strange, indeed

Hope you get to the bottom of what is happening

That happens to me. It used to come from a 713 number and now it's a more local 586 number but - same thing, no message....can't get through when I try to call back either.

weird! I just stopped answering them all together. I send it right to vm as soon as I see the number.

hopefully it will stop soon.

hugsquared it's funny you say that. When I called the crack team at sprint to ask them about it, the representative told me it was impossible to be getting a call from an out of service number. I replied, "Well I am getting called, so is it a ghost calling?". She transfered me to "someone who could put a block on it". After waiting on hold for ten minutes I gave up. Oh well I'll just wait and see what happens.

Sprint told me I couldnt block numbers???

To the OP that is weird. I bet you its just prank calls. What if it is from a pay phone?

You need to sign up your cell to the Do not call registry=all the "crazy calls and text messages I was bombarded with ceased when I did this.

I am risking sounding like a crazy person to many here, I'm sure, but has anyone close to you passed away? I'm serious. After my mom passed my sister, brother and I all got "weird" calls...including one just this Thanksgiving. At 4:20 a.m., the time my mom's heart stopped on July 12, 2004, my sister got a text message saying HAPPY THANKSGIVING and she can't even see who it came from. Thanksgiving was my mom's favorite holiday.

713 is here in Houston :earseek: !

Go to whitepages.com and use the reverse number look-up to see if the caller can truly be identified.
Other than that, I don't have any other ideas, only if you could put a block on that number or sign your cell up for the National "Do Not Call" Registry.

good luck,
agnes!

This is another type of spam and telemarketing .
Their computer calls you and puts out a phoney ramdom # so it's hard to trace.
The DO NOT CALL LIST should help but these companies get paid on pickups not on direct sales thats why they never answer it's just a computer.

I did the white pages and yellow pages reverse number, nothing. What kind of spam or telemarketing? When I answered the phone there wasn't anyone on the other end. Also, remember, I did dial the number from my home phone and the message was : The number you have dialed is no longer in service.

I did ask Sprint if it could be someone trying to access my account, but the nimrod, er I mean representative on the other end said no.

Some companies have a general call ID number. When I call people from work they see the general number, not my exact extension.

When I call people from my desk at work the phone number that comes up on caller ID is not my number. If you try to call it back it says it's out of service.

at my office, we have to dial 9, then 1, area code, phone #...... our main # does show up on caller id, but if you dial it, you end up in our voice mail system, no idea WHO actually called you

I had been getting phone calls on my cell from a local # and would just send it to my voice mail... never received a message... I did a google, 411 reverse, everything to figure out who the # was.... finally one day, "they" called again, it was a local newspaper wanting to know if I wanted to subscribe to their paper... OHMIGOD! I practically reamed the telemarketer out... I told her "Please take this # OFF your call list. I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU GOT MY #, but this is a cell phone and YOU'RE WASTING MY MINUTES AND COSTING ME MONEY!!!!! She said "sorry, we'll take you off the list. I told her if I get ANY more phone calls from your newspaper, I'll report you to the proper authorities.

My # is on the do not call list, a lot of good it did. I still don't know how they got my #!!!!!!! ggggrrrrhhhhh!!!!

The do not call list
Is only for companies you you have not contact with .If you have a subscription or you contacted them for a contest then they can call until you ask to be removed.
This goes for CC copm. that have Partner comp.as well .The TELEMARKETERS switched to CELLS due to the donotcall list just another resorce for them until they are stopped.

Thats interesting...My grandma died many years ago...About 20..One night when my friends were over at about 2 am we got a intercom call when is when one phone in your house calls the other but we had both phones and they were both ringing saying intercome. My dad was upstairs sleeping and the only way that could have happened if someone hit the button in the kitchen,... When we answered the phone we heard some weird noise.

I had weird stuff happen with my answering machine. I heard static coming from the machine...my phone never rang, when I went to look at the machine it said I had 3 calls, but my phone never rang at all that morning. I had 3 calls, all 2 minutes apart and all that was on the machine was static. Talk about freaking me out!

I don't think it was a telemarketer, they would hit me with a sales pitch when I answered. Not a lot of people have my cell number, only my immediate family and the 6 people I work with. What I think may have happened, is that maybe the line got mixed up somehow. My husband said he was trying to call all day yesterday, but the phone connection just wouldn't go through. He's down in South America, I think in Brazil now. The number wasn't even close, copmpletly different area code etc... So who knows. Guess I'll see what happens today.
