Celebrities You Thought Were Dead (But Are Really Still Alive)

I'd seen this thread the other day and couldn't think of a single person. Then I read that Pernell Roberts had died and of course I ran a search on his filmography, checked his photos out at IMDB, etc... When I do this, I always find myself clicking another link and just getting lost in the subject by clicking other links, then another, ad-nauseum. Of course Pernell Roberts took me to Michael Landon. In turn, that took me to Lorne Greene, and to be frankly honest, I don't know how it came to be, but I somehow managed to wind up at Ernest Borgnine's page and I found out he's still alive when I thought he'd died years ago. According to one of the links listed upthread, he's now 93 years old.

So, it's Ernest Borgnine for me and I'm running before I get sucked into another black hole.

Before I run however, the girl that played the sister getting married in the movie, Meet the Parents, died of pneumonia back in 2005. I was absolutely blown away when I read about it a couple years after her death.

Oh wow! So young to have died, how sad.:guilty:

Actually just yesterday when I saw the little lady from the Poltergeist movie died! I thought she died years ago.

I knew Ernest Borgnine was alive because I watch A LOT of Spongebob and he is Mermaid Man!!!

Also my parents moved a couple years ago to one of those "Active Adult" places. My Dad was walking up to the clubhouse and was like Hey holy crap that's Abe Vigoda! Yes Abe lives!!!

I thought that JD Salinger, aurthur of Catcher And The Rye, I thought he died years ago, I heard on then news he passed away yesterday,

This person is only a celebrity to all of you readers of the popular "Spenser" mystery novels. I was absolutely shocked to hear that Robert B Parker, the author, died earlier this month. If you read his books, this is a big surprise and a big loss. No more Spenser, Susan and Hawk! May he Rest In Peace with plenty of Red Sox souveniers by his side!

Me, too!

And recently, I was listening to a broadcast from the Detroit Jazz Festival and two of Dave Brubeck's sons were playing. They said Dave was standing nearby grinning ear-to-ear. I went to Wikipedia and sure enough, he's in his 90s and still kickin' it.

I thought the Monkies were dead for some reason but they are all alive. It came up in conversation with dh and he looked it up.

I thought Salinger was already dead and nope. Well he is NOW, I just meant when I heard. :rotfl:

The one who goes: "This house is Clean"?

Both the girls in the movie died yrs ago.

I didn't realize Michael Jackson died. I wish the news would have at least covered it. I guess there was something more important going on at the time.

WHA-AT???

And no one covered it on the DIS either. I totally missed this one. :sad1:

It is absolutely amazing what you learn on the disboards. I had no idea Ernest Borgnine as still alive which I somehow find comforting!

I was talking to a friend the other day and somehow the subject of Phil Donahue came up. She told me he was dead. I was like how could Donahue have died and I didn't know it? I didn't know it because he hadn't died. No idea where she got that one but I bet Marlo Thomas is very relieved.

Yes, I'm always glad to learn someone I thought was dead is alive after all.

However, I feel bad when I've learned someone just died, when I somehow "killed them off" already. Only, I'm not sure what I'm feeling bad about. :scratchin I mean, I'm glad they had several more years than I thought they did. . . but, then, they are now dead, when I thought they already were. . .

Lol that happened to me with Paul Newman. I thought he had already died and when he did I felt so guilty! Then I thought, how dumb, as if me thinking someone who had died, that I didn't know and didn't know me, put so much bad karma out in the universe that it got him in the end!

I also forgot Gerald Ford died. During the inaugeration last year I was like "hey how come Ford isn't there too". Then my brother was the one to remind me he had died. Which I instantly remembered but somehow not quite in time!

Robert Wagner is STILL ALIVE! Had no idea till I saw him on a Commercial and in "Two and a Half Men" episode.:lmao:

For years I thought Stevie Wonder was dead. I could have sworn I had heard it in the news. :confused3

He was on NCIS just a couple of weeks ago. he looks great. I never thought he was dead. But I picked up his book last summer and leafed through it and went OMG, He's how old?:scared1:

In fairness, though - many of us fans knew he was alive until the day after he died. :)

Recluse for forty years - not surprising people thought he died ages ago. By the way, I heard on the radio tonight, Catcher in the Rye has sold either six million or sixty million copies since it was published.

Ah, I could have told you that! Mike Nesmith is a music producer, and sometimes performs with the others in Europe (but not in the U.S. years); Mickey Dolenz I think has produced or directed either movies or tv shows; Peter Tork is, well, somewhat spacy Peter Tork; and (yes, I watch cheesy game shows) Davy Jones recently (in the last two weeks) appeared on a celebrity episode of "The Newlywed Game"!

Since you asked... he'll be eighty the week after next (February 10)

He lives in PA and breeds horses now. Found this out sometime last year flipping through tvland:rotfl:
