I just have to do a little celebretory dance :cool1:
and a few bananas

My WHOLE family ate the SAME meal tonight that I cooked!!! Hubby, DD8 (picky queen) and DS2!! (only a little, but still better than nothing!)

And to make it even better, it was budget friendly!!
I got it from the January All You Magazine. :lovestruc

Congrats!

We don't do multiple meals at our house - I am way too lazy for that, but I don't force my kids to eat either. And I do feel bad some nights when someone decides they just aren't having what I made (but in truth, oh well ...).

But anyway - what did you make? I can always use new ideas!

Well that is good for a start. We knew ahead of time that we could never have a "diner" in our house. We set up so everyone eats the same thing at all times- no exceptions. I knew I didn't want to make four separate dinners for four people.. its so exhausting just to think about it. We never succumbed to picky eating.

I have worked with developmentally delayed children who have textual or food issues--hard time swallowing and eating and are limited to specific foods or textures. If that is your issue, it does get better and can change.

Now my kids are teenagers and they have such great tastebuds.. just tonight we have Indian food, and the evening before was another cuisine.

My DH's family let the kids have separate meals.. now we have four grown men who wrinkle their noses at green vegetable and only eat specific foods.. Its embarassing to see 50 year old men say "eww" to things like green vegetables or tofu when my teenagers eat them with no questions asked.

Keep it up and don't back down. It can be done and now this is the beginning of change.

It was Italian Sausage & Potato Roast
from the Jan All You

I tweaked the recipe a bit to fit what I had on hand, so here's what I did:

1 yellow bell pepper, 1 red bell pepper, 1 green bell pepper all de-seeded and cut up
1 package of Safeway brand keilbasa sausage (The big oval kind) cut up into pieces

5 fairly large red potatoes

mix them all up and spread out on a baking sheet lined with foil and lightly sprayed with Pam.

Coat with oil, garlic salt, italian seasoning and pepper.

Cook for 1/2 hour at 450 degrees for about 30 minutes.

My potatoes were a bit undercooked, so next time I'll cut them a bit smaller. I already had the sausage on hand, so I only had to buy the peppers! :goodvibes
It also called for a sweet onion, but I forgot to buy it. DH said that would have been really good, so I'll add it next time.

I don't usually cook more than 1 thing, except for the 2 year old, or if it's something I know DD doesn't like (and has tried before), but I'm always glad when I find something they will all eat!

Congrats!! I can definitely understand your joy!! I have a DD8 who is also super picky. She will only eat 1 of 3 things for dinner....hamburger, Kraft Mac & Cheese (has to be the one out of the box with the powder cheese packet...will not eat any other mac & cheese), or bagel bites. She will also eat Chik-fi-la nuggets....no other chicken....I make chicken cutlets often and to get her to take a bite of the chicken is the most horrendous ordeal you have ever witnessed. She eats strawberry yogurt for lunch.....every day.....for the past 2 years. A couple of weekends ago we went out to dinner at this nice cuban restaurant....no hamburger on the menu....so DD8 had bread with butter for dinner....she was in heaven....as she could eat rolls/bread with butter for every meal if we let her. DS3 will usually try anything...but now that he is getting older he sees what his sister does/doesn't eat and he is starting to act up. My DH will not eat any vegetables or any fruit. It's hard to make dinner without vegetables....like tonight I made a pot roast in the crock pot and added carrots.....luckily I could remove the carrots from DH's plate....but usually I make meat with veggies on the side only for DS3 and myself plus a pasta/rice side for DH. We keep hoping DD8 will change her eating habits as she gets older, but it's really crazy in my house at dinner time.

I got tired of fighting with my kids over meals, for the most part there is always some part of the meal that everyone will like, but DH makes it into such an ordeal if the kids don't want to eat everything that I quit making them try if they don't want to. If they don't want what we're having they are welcome to heat up some leftovers from the fridge. Once I cook something, though, I'm done cooking, I won't make something different, if they don't eat it they're on their own.

The only exception is new recipes, everyone has to try those.

Yummy, thanks! I have all of this on hand so I'll try have to try it tonight.

Thanks Mrsw94!

I made this tonight, doubled the recipe for my family of 6 and not a forkful left!

I did add the onions and I used those mini red potatoes, cut into quarters. I also put everything into a bowl and tossed it with the olive oil and seasonings (had to break iy ip into a few batches to fit all). I used 2 cookie sheets too.

This is a keeper!

Thanks foe sharing and Happy New Year!

You are welcome! I'm so glad it was successful! Yeah!

My kids (boys) were kind of picky when they were young, but I never made a separate meal for them. They had a choice, either eat what I made or don't eat. Children will not deliberately starve themselves. They're now 24 and 27 and eat a lot of different things and in fact, one eats a lot more variety than we do (seafood-I have allergies to shrimp so I avoid all shellfish/crustaceans). My MIL used to make several meals and even tried that for my boys even when she was making something they'd eat. In her mind, kids wouldn't eat what the adults would. My boys constantly surprised her. I used to tell her not to do it, but she was convinced they'd "starve" lol.
