Celebrating my Un-Birthday Disney Style-April 2010-New 5/3 - The TR has started!

Very cool photos, Amy..my first trip was also in the 80's..no idea what that house thing is though?

I love your idea of Looking Back!

I was eight in 1982.

Oh, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea -- how I miss thee!!!

That house has me stumped. I don't remember it at all.

20,000 leagues! Oh I loved that at DL.....

Fun pics Amy!

I have faint memories from riding 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in 1982... everything is fuzzy from way back then. Never been to DL though...

Oh I'm sorry Tim got sick too..yuck!

:rotfl:

Can't wait...did 3 trips in the 90's too

Oh and here are a few of the Disney mysteries to be solved...

Aldine just asked:

Does Mickey have brothers?

me: no

A: Well how can he have nephews? :confused3

A: Are Donald and Daisy married?

me: no

A: but they have kids

me: no those are his nephews too...

Aldine now even more confused  :rotfl:

J~

:rotfl2: Aldine has some very valid questions!

Amy-love your photos from Disney years gone by...isn't it fun to see how much some things are still the same and how things have changed? Like that house...:confused3...I was going to say it was on a set from Disney Studios but that wasn't even built yet...:confused3

Sorry about Tim...pneumonia really takes it out of you and even when you're "better" you still are not quite yourself for a bit...men aren't always so good with that...:rolleyes1

Poor Aldine...I have often wondered about some of the same things...:lmao:...I mean come on...isn't it time that Mickey and Donald decide to commit already...really they aren't getting any younger...:rolleyes1

I love looking at the fashion trends - so funny!!

Luckily Tim had planned this week off from work, otherwise he wouldn't have taken sick time and probably would have ended up in the hospital! Men... :rolleyes1 (Sorry Jordan...)

Love your photos. I miss the Disney World of the 80s.

Thanks!! I miss some of the old stuff too - but there's so much more now - it's hard to imagine going to WDW and only visiting Magic Kingdom. We went to River Country too and that island with the birds. :confused3

I'm not sure what that house is... my mom must have gotten it mixed in with the Disney pictures?

There is a lot of good stuff on sale right now - especially if you aren't too picky about colors/patterns. :thumbsup2 I was just sick of filling my travel bag then having several ziploc bags of overflow travel items. :rolleyes1 I can't wait to fill up my little travel bottles and stick them in my new travel bags.

Good morning! I'm sure you have all heard about the Give a Day/Get a Day promotion Disney is running this year. I totally forgot to check the website yesterday, but first thing this morning I was on there searching for volunteer opportunities that we might be able to do. I was happy to see that there are many opportunities for families with kids, although not too many for kids as young as six (six is the youngest possible age) but I did find one that we actually get to do at home!! We have to make a collection box for an organization that collects money to buy various things for kids in countries around the world. Some of the money has gone to buy backpacks for kids going back to school in Iraq, there is money to buy mosquito nets for AIDS orphans in Africa and many, many other things. I signed us right up and next weekend we are scheduled to make our box (although we can really do it any time by March 31st). For our trouble we will get 4 free one day/one park tickets that can be upgraded to multi-day tickets!! It will save us $294!!

very cool AMY...

I have yet to check out the site but I will...good for you!

That's a fantastic volunteer opportunity. We're doing a backpack thing at school. We're collecting and filling backpacks for children who live in shelters in NYC. My class can't wait to start. I LOVE that Disney has found a way to include children in volunteering. I need to check out some things I can do with my older nephew.

Amy what a wonderful opportunity!! It is great that you can help others and get something in return.

That's a great volunteer opportunity! I forgot to check the website yesterday, too. Maybe I will do that after dinner tonight.

Very cool opportunity! I checked the site yesterday and didn't see anything that grabbed me but plan to keep checking and pick something over the next month or so. I'd prefer it was something the kids could do too but there was nothing close (yet!)

I think we are going to go for the fast pass option though since we have to get tickets with our package already. I could use them for our DCA/DL trip but it would mess with my master sneaky plan to get Jeff into DL....

I love the project you found!

Very cool. The site was veeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyy slow for me yesterday, so I'll check it out later.

You should definitely check it out!!

That sounds like a fun thing to do with your class - are you a teacher?

I really wasn't expecting to find something that Alex would be able to participate in because of his autism/impatience & I also wasn't expecting to find anything that Zach could do because of his age. I was really happy to find the opportunity I did!

I'm also going to volunteer at a local food pantry with MIL so she can get a ticket too. I can't get another one, but I feel like I should do some actual volunteering other than decorating a box. The box is a great opportunity for the kids, especially if I present it the right way, but I feel like I should do more for what I am getting back in return.

Amy what a wonderful opportunity!! It is great that you can help others and get something in return.

Zach is chomping at the bit to get started! He was a little upset that we hadn't painted the box today - we have to let the paint dry before we can actually decorate it. I'll post a picture of the box when we're done.

That's a great volunteer opportunity! I forgot to check the website yesterday, too. Maybe I will do that after dinner tonight.

I'm sure you can find something great! :thumbsup2

Fast passes would be great too! Keep checking back because they are going to be adding things all the time.

Hi Hedy! Not sure how close you are to Boston - but there seemed to be a lot in that area.

For anyone who is interested... I just went back through my PTR and added links into the first post. Now that I'm posting more frequently I figured that might help if anyone gets behind & doesn't want to read through everything. :goodvibes

I'm sure you can find something great! :thumbsup2

Surprisingly, most of the ones that we would be able to do -- like making goody bags of various things for the homeless shelters were already all full. I did sign up for the making blankets one, but I have to wait for an email back on that one. I am hoping more dates and things open up as the year goes on. I think it is a great way to get the kids involved in doing things for their community.

Nice!

Oh, we men get a bad rap, but we're not so bad......most of the time.

I was thinking about the community service offer too... I am glad to see there are all sorts of opportunities. There are several in our area, and I think I will consider doing this one day, because our APs run out on the 28th of June, and should we stay a day longer we can then do so. My 2nd grader does community service through school, but we have never done something like this as a family. SO I think it is worth looking into! Thanks for the reminder!

We had some blanket things here too - I would have chosen that over the donation box except the blankets were being made at the various organizations and the box we could do at home.

Nice!

We women have to have someone to blame... ;)

The free ticket can be upgraded to a multi-day ticket or an AP - it can also be used to renew an AP.

I thought it was a good opportunity for my kids who often act like they are entitled to everything. :sad2: Zach really took it seriously, asking a lot of questions about the kids around the world that we might be helping. I hope he doesn't have nightmares... I told him about the orphans in Africa. :rolleyes1

First a quick update on our Give a Day project... We finished the first phase of decorating our box. Zach painted the inside red then all four of us glued tissue paper all over the outside of the box. Alex lasted about 5 minutes - he HATES having stuff like glue on his hands!! Everything is drying now.

Magic Kingdom – Looking Back – Post #2 – Going back to 1997.

Between 1982 and 1997 I visited WDW twice with my best friend’s family. Unfortunately I can’t find any pictures from those trips… My next trip was in 1997 with Tim. We had been married almost a year. This was Tim’s second trip – he visited WDW once when he was 16 years old. We stayed off-site at our timeshare condo.

Tim is so thin in this picture! He jokes that he was half the man he is now! :rotfl:

Favorites from this trip: It's all a bit fuzzy, but I would say just re-discovering Disney magic as an adult!

Up next: Magic Kingdom – 2002!
