Celebrating Bday but not your actual Bday

Just curious if it is okay to celebrate a special occasion when it isn't actually that special occasion yet.

More specific we are going to WDW the 1st week in December. My DS's bday isn't until Dec 14th but we wanted to have some special attention given to him one day at say Chef Mickey's or Crystal Palace. And pickup a birthday button as well. Is this normal practice or should it only be done on the actual day?

Then the next problem is that he will be turning 3 on Dec 14th. So if we do celebrate and they ask him how old he is turning is this going to cause an issue? Technically he isn't 3 but yet we are celebrating.

What would you do?

TIA

I'm bumping because I am curious too. My DS will turn 6 on 10/13, but we are not going until 10/29. We are celebrating his birthday there as well.

Nothing wrong with getting a birthday button but be prepared to explain that he isn't 3 yet.

I think you are making it complicated if a CM should talk with your son about his age.

If you truly want something done for your son arrange and pay for something. Sometimes all you get with a birthday button is wished Happy Birthday by the CM's. If you want more than that arrange it yourself. That way you won't be dissapointed.

We had to cancel my daughter's 2nd birthday celebration at Chef Mickey's on Saturday night because of Hurricane Jeanne. My baby spend her birthday in a hotel room in Georgia, though we tried to make it fun by stopping at Kroger and picking up a cake, candles, Pooh plates & cups plus lots of balloons I blew up for her. Luckily we had bought presents at Downtown Disney before we had to leave and I had brought wrapping paper with me so she did get the whole presents experience. But, it just wasn't the same as having dinner with Mickey:( So, we're going to go back, hopefully in December, and I plan on celebrating her birthday then. I will mention the situation to the CM's, but I can't see them having a problem with it. I guess I'll find out:crazy:

My nephew turned five a couple days before we went to WDW last Dec. We picked one day of our vacation and celebrated his birthday. He wore the button and everything. When the CMs asked he said he was five but it wasn't really his birthday. We then would tell them his birthday was such and such date and we are celebrating it today. No one had a problem with it.

We are going next week and will be celebrating my FIs birthday while we are there. He is required (by me, Dictator Allison) to wear his button the entire week. If someone asks, we'll just say what we always do...its his "birthday week", but the actual day is Wednesday. I've done this is the past and had no issues whatsoever. Have fun!

Go right ahead and get a birthday button. If someone asks, just tell them you're celebrating his birthday month/week whatever...

It's perfectly fine. We celebrated DS's birthday week. He wore the button the entire week since his birthday was on the day we had to travel home. He enjoyed himself, the CMs thought it was cute that we celebrated the entire week and he was still pampered.
