Celebrating a birthday at DLR when it isn't the actual birth date?

DH asked me what I'd like to do for my birthday this year, and I said "I'd really love to use my Disney fund to go to Disneyland, but I know that won't work." He suggested that since I have the money saved up, I should still book the trip to celebrate, even though I can't be there on my actual birthday. So DS7 and I are headed there to catch Dapper Day (a long time wish of mine) and even managed to scrape together enough to stay at the GCH (thanks to the Dapper Day rate). DH doesn't particularly like Disney vacations (crazy, I know), so we told him he can enjoy some peace and quiet at home while DS and I have fun adventures together. One of my good friends is going to join us instead, and is bringing her 6.5 year old son, too.

DH thinks that we should include on the reservation that I'm celebrating my birthday, but I think that's silly since my birthday is in January and we're going 6 weeks later. He says that since this is my birthday trip, we should do birthday things, and wants to tell my friend to order a special desert and sing happy birthday, etc. etc.

What do you guys think? I think it feels very silly to say I'm celebrating my birthday so far from the actual date. DH disagrees and says a birthday celebration is a birthday celebration, no matter when it happens. But that seems to me like then anyone could say they were celebrating their birthday at DLR even if it was months away, and I don't want to make a big deal out of it. I get to go to DLR, and DH helped make that happen, and that's my birthday present & party all rolled into one.

So what do you think...which one of us is crazy?

We do this all the time due to the fact it is rarely feasible to go on our actual birthday or anniversary.

Take this trip next week - we were not planning on any Disney trips this year however circumstances changed. We may also not be able to go until after August again ( which will be our 5 year anniversary) so we are celebrating it next week. I'm a fan of celebrate things as you are able not what a date dictates. Have fun , it;s Disneyland and get buttons at town hall for sure !

I totally agree with your husband. It's your birthday trip, so go and celebrate it up! It doesn't matter that the trip doesn't fall on your actual birthday. If you don't want to celebrate the entire trip, pick one day as your special day and celebrate that day. Happy birthday!!

In early March there are 5 of us going to DLR.
Four of use have Jan/Feb BD's 1-17, 1-31, 2-7 and 2-28.
I've booked a Character Breakfast at the Plaza Inn to celebrate our BD's.

I'm glad your husband encouraged you to go. You're going to have a great time. Your DS will have fun with your friend's DS.

Celebrate your birthday!

We are going December 2016 for my 40th birthday. It's not my actual birthday until January but I sure am going to celebrate like it is.

Go ahead and celebrate it! No one will even know! Yes, it might be a little weird if your birthday was, say, six months early, but in your case, its merely a six week difference. I guess just anyone could lie about their birthday, but you are not one of them, in fact, you are actually there for your belated birthday celebration. So relax and have an awesome birthday trip!

My wedding anniversary is in August and my birthday is in Dec. And we go to Disneyland in April. But we always celebratte those special days there.My son 9 refuses to even though his birthday is in Feb. He says its not his birthday, I tell him yo stop acting like a grumpy 89 yr old man!

Go ahead and celebrate! I'm going to WDW at the end of February and celebrating my birthday that isn't until the middle of March.

And this way you get to celebrate twice.

we always go in oct, nov or early dec. This lets us celbrate my son's oct or my Nov bday many times.

Thanks everyone! I feel better about going along with whatever those two decide to plan now. DS and I will have a couple days of just the two of us, and then our friends will arrive, so I said we can pick one day after they get there and celebrate my birthday then.

I agree with your DH.
Last year for my 30th my DH gave me some Disney experiences that I had always wanted to do-stay on site, do the F! dessert party, eat at Blue Bayou (I also did the Beluga experience at Seaworld) and had been hoping to do the Walk inWalts footsteps tour but it wasnt running for our dates.

I didnt say the whole trip that I was celebrating but for those things I was-they were arranged for my birthday
