Yes - one of my favorite series, along w/ the Dragonriders of Pern. Have you read them?

I had just finished Magic's Price when I sat down at the computer and saw your post. I keep the Valdemar books next to my treadmill. I've read them enough that I don't have to think about them while I'm walking, but I enjoy them enough to lose track of time. Very distracting books. Now, if only she'd go back and write some more in that world. There hasn't been anything new in ages!
