Last time I was at Cedar Point my daughter was three and son a few years older. Now the GRANDKIDS are those ages! Is it worth the admission price for them? It would be mainly for the children's ride area and some shows. Thanks for any input.

If I had that aged kids(or gradnkids) I would probably wait a few years until they could appreciate the roller coasters, since that is the big draw for that park. When I went a few years ago(I was 10, but I LOVE thrill rides/coasters) I loved the few rides I did go on. That's one thing, the lines are killer. That was a few years ago now, though, so I hope they improved upon fastpasses and things like that so you can bipass the lines and go straight to the fun. I didn't go on any of the kids rides, nor see any shows, but like I said above, I would probably wait until they were older and really take advantage of the high prices and let them enjoy the roller coasters, they are the best in the world!!

JMO, though!

I've been taking DD to CP since she was about that age and I used to take my niece and nephew when they were kids (almost 15 years ago!.) Camp Snoopy is much improved--a lot more rides for little kids than there used to be. I particularly enjoy watching them on the Frog Hopper! I missed the Snoopy show but I've heard from friends that it's great. You could also take them to the beach and let them play on the sand. The mini-Gemini coaster is fun.

For older kids (7 and up) you might measure them, then check out the Cedar Point website (it lists height requirements for all the rides.) The great thing about CP is that there are so MANY rollercoasters of different thrill levels. I love coasters so I've been training DD since she was a small child--working her up to the bigger rides. She's 13 now and last year she and a friend rode the Corkscrew 29 times in a row (along with several other coasters but not the really big ones.) This year she told me she wants to try the Magnum and Millenium Force. I'll work her up to Top Thrill Dragster eventually!

Also, some of her other favorite rides have included the old fashioned cars you drive--much better than the Speedway at WDW IMO. It's a very pretty, tree-lined drive withtout the huge lines. Another old favorite of mine that she adores is the merry-go-round with the racing horses. We make a trip to CP every year and we enjoy it so much--there's tons to do and if you're not riding the big coasters, the lines are very manageable. We stay onsite at the Breakers--last year we got a suite with a lakeview and a balcony. It was great and you can walk right into the park. Nice for those mid-afternoon breaks when it gets so hot and crowded!

I think you'd all have a great time! BTW, admission is around $43 and I have Pepsi cans in my fridge right now offering $10 off that price. Stop at a convenience store before you go and see if you can find some--or Meijer's sells discounted tickets as well.

I was there about 3 years ago, just my husband and myself. We had a great time. But I was glad we left the children home with grandma and grandpa ( 8 and 4). I agree with the previous poster, the admission price isn't worth it for the little guys. The coasters are the main thing at this park. If you can't ride them, there isn't a whole lot more...................

Great place for coaster lovers though!!

Well it depends, are the grandkids wimpy or daredevils? My kids have never been afraid of any ride. We haven't been to CP for 3 years even though we live 1 1/2 hours away, mainly because summer goes by so fast, we've been to WDW every year and when they have their fall weekends we have soccer games. But last time we went DD#2 was 6 and just barely 48"--she rode EVERYTHING she could, including Millenium Force, Gemini, Magnum, Blue Streak and Mean Streak . DD#1 rode all those plus Raptor, Power Tower and the one where you stand up (don't remember the name). We don't even bother with "weak" coasters like Disaster Transport, Iron Dragon and Mine Ride. I'm sure when DS hits 48" (he is only 44 1/2 now) he'll be doing the same--he's ridden every thrill ride at WDW except R&R. As it is he is cheaper at CP because he can't do the big rides.
I remember when I was a teen taking friends to CP when we went with my family. The first question had to be "do you ride roller coasters?" One year I took a friend who was a big chicken and it was a pretty boring day since she wouldn't ride anything major.

My opinion is that Cedar Point is a park for teenagers. Although young kids and families can enjoy the park, I think that it is geared more towards teen couples or groups.

We went last year when the kids were 7 & 9. The 9 year old has always loved coasters and rode everything she could- except Top Thrill Dragster. I wouldn't let her do that one.
The 7 year old is just starting to like coasters and loved riding Blue Streak. He wasn't tall enough for some of the rides. We felt the Camp Snoopy part was so-so. Not worth the money if that's all they can ride, in my opinion.
I don't even remember any shows, other than the Snoopy laser one at night.
My kids did really like Soak City.

I went with my 6 and 9 year old this past month, and LOVED it.

There are tons of smaller rides (not just lousy flat rides either). If they are over 48 inches (my six year old was) there is so much that they can do -- hey my 6 year olds favorite ride was Milleniumm Force! The camp Snoopy is cute as well. There are other things such as log flume, smaller coasters, (disaster transport), the train ride, the Cedar Downs, the car ride, and other things.

My 9 year old loves Mellinum and Top Thrill ! Top Thrill is a blast!

We are headed to CP in July and the DH wants to tent camp. I am still trying to find a place that will accept tents. There are lots of RV campgrounds but I am having trouble finding the tent places. Years ago we stayed at a State campgrounds but I can't even remember the name of it! HELP!

Did you mean Maumee Bay State Park? Try that one. It's right on Lake Erie about an hour away from CP.

State Parks

East Harbor is one of the closest to Cedar Point, and it has the most sites. I tent camped there when I was younger (a long time ago). That would be my first choice, and it's in a good location if you want to go to Cedar Point or to South Bass Island.

Maumee Bay is a newer State Park and is closer to Toledo. the lodge is beautiful, and the campground was clean. A lot of sites had little shade. I think it is too far away from Cedar Point and is more secluded.

Cedar Point has their own campground, but I don't know if they accept tents.

As for the State Parks, it looks like they finally have a reservation system. I camped two years ago and it was first come first serve.

As for Cedar Point, I think it is geared for older kids and adults. For a winter vacation, Great Bear Lodge is close to Cedar Point, and has an indoor waterpark that would be nice for your kids

I think there's stuff for younger kids at Cedar Point. Sure, the coasters get all the attention, but the coasters are 16 out of the 70 or so rides there. The good thing about CP is that there's a coaster for pretty much everyone, so your kids can find something they like. Besides, they can hang around Camp Snoopy.

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

I think CP is a park best suited for kids old enough and big enough to do at least some of the big rides. If the kids are about 8 or 9 and able to do some of the bigger stuff, they'll be just fine there. My own kids are both 5 and under and I won't be taking them there until they are older. The kiddie land and shows aren't worth the price of admission - at least to me.

I totally agree with this. Unless your kids are taller, daredevils and like coasters then the Kiddie Kingdom area/Camp Snoopy area is totally NOT worth it. There are no shows to speak of and no parades. Yes you can ride the old fashioned cars in a few spots in the parks but when we rode on one of them with our youngest, the kid working the ride insisted that he pedal it in. In doing that he jerked the car and my son's eye went right in the middle of the steering wheel with a thing sticking out of it. No I'm sorry, is he ok, can I take you to medical. The kid was screaming and this young kid was clueless. I didn't panic as I am a nurse but I was furious at the "oh well" attitude. Also the rides you have to go on with your young child are so small that you are smashed in. I am under 5 foot 3 inches and I was cramped! Yes the Hotel Breakers was nice, we also had a suite, but it was NOT worth $321.50/night. Just my opinion. We didn't go this year and all our friends went. We will probably go again next year if our son grows alot. He will be older

Maumee Bay State Park sounds great but there is no way we want to drive an dhour after being at Cedar Point all day!

East Harbor is the name I was looking for! I had stayed there may be 20 years ago but I just wasn't finding the name! Thanks!

Cedar Point has may things to do for all ages but it is hard to keep everyone together and happy. The kids have their own special area and things they love to do and the teensters and middle agers like the coasters but we always end up splitting up the family. That is why I love Disney so much! Most things there can be done by everyone!
