Absolutely. It's not front and center in the news anymore, but we have a massive amount of Covid outbreaks in LTC facilities right now. I was surprised to hear that we have 24 outbreaks...just in N.J. alone. No population has suffered more than these poor souls. If they're not dying from Covid, they are dying from isolation. I wonder how long the F.D.A needs to approve this.

As of last week my county had 33 active outbreaks in long-term care. The death rate long-term care comprised of for my county was as high as 85% or so coming from long-term care facilities, presently that number sits at 65% of the deaths in my county.

That's awful. Let's all hope that the roll-out goes smoothly as it can. This article in the NYT this morning is a reminder that it's not always easy going. Operation Warp Speed initially set a goal for 300 million doses by the end of the year. Between the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, we'll have just 45 million doses...enough to vaccinate 22.5 million people. I'm not saying that isn't amazing, it's far below the goal set. The other vaccine manufacturers have had big bumps in the road along the way, and there have been hiccups in the manufacturing process as well as a run on raw materials to produce enough vaccine. So....in other words, mask up for now...and hope/pray for the best.

Keep in mind, a vaccine for only 25 million at the start will also coincide with surges happening right now.. Which means on a positive note, the numbers of vaccinated AND the numbers of those Covid recovered (antibodies) will help in a small way in starting some form or herd immunity. Do the math,, 12 million already in the US and over 100 thousand a day new.... By time the vaccine comes out 10% of the US might already have antibodies... add this to another 10% in the first batch...

Does anyone know these answers:
1. Have they figured out how long the vaccine protection lasts?
2. If you had Covid... do you still get the shot? or wait for those witih no antibodies first? Curious how that works... I am mean if I were covid postiive, I would be want to know what the vaccine means specifically for me..


I have been be bit frustrated on reading many online comments elsewhere on how people are downright refusing to get the shot for this reason " it takes decades to make a vaccine, I am not getting one rushed".... I wish they would learn more about biontech.... they have been working for 10 years on this type of vaccine technology... and most are based on other vaccine development SARS/Ebola....

There is tons of stupidy out there. if you are against it, then at least do the research to find a valid reason.

I have absolutely seen it discussed that people would be given an on the spot antigen test before getting vaccinated. If they have antibodies they would theoretically go to the back of the line.

From what I’ve heard, Pfizer’s logistic tests have been specifically focused on getting the “suitcases” from the facility to the airport to the truck to a nursing home.

Well, this is the rub right? I'd say that 99% of us on this thread....are going to get the vaccine. Any of us who are slightly skeptical will have the next several months to observe any issues as there will be tens of millions before us who will get the vaccine first. But....science has been attacked to a degree that we've never seen before. Now we have to hope that the same people who are science-deniers will get the vaccine, or at least....that they are in small enough numbers to not affect the ultimate outcome....herd immunity. I mean, there are people literally *dying* of this disease, who are arguing with ICU nurses with their gasping last breath....that they don't have Covid, because Covid doesn't *exist*. So...from a sociological viewpoint....this should be interesting....to say the least.

I have been following a person who lives in St. Louis, a high school classmate who is a doctor and is participating in the Pfizer trial. Lots of good specific insight. Info like this is helpful for anyone hesitant to take the vaccine.

I don't doubt the front line health professionals.
Many patients with severe covid are given opportunities as much as possible to facetime with loved ones. Nurses and Drs work especially hard to make that happen before putting patients on ventilators.

Well, I think what the nurse meant....was that they were wasting their last *talking* breaths....denying the fact that they had covid, because covid didn't exist. I know a ton of nurses, and they all talk about how quickly Covid patients crash. So, yes, not their last gasping breath, but wasting words, possibly their last spoken words, on denying the reality of Covid vs. talking to family, before being intubated.

You can't deny that there are millions of people, who have at a minimum, downplayed Covid as no big deal, or "just the flu". And a smaller number, but they're out there....who believe it's all a hoax. I've seen a lot of them over the last several months, usually being interviewed while waiting to get into a rally.

I'm not denying that people have doubted covid is real. I am doubting that all of a sudden out of the blue nurses are popping up out of nowhere claiming that these patients are suddenly telling them this stuff. Where were they in spring?
