CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

Still no word on when I'll be eligible for the vaccine. I went to the FEMA site in Tampa with a co-worker last week. She is 52 so she was able to get the vaccine but I'm too young. Today the governor announced that starting next Monday the general population 60+ will be able to get vaccinated but no mention of LEOs or Firefighters.

I'll just patiently wait until its my turn. We've had a lot of officers get covid but I have somehow avoided it thus far.
Yipes! First responders, police officers, firefighters and sheriff’s deputies in my area were eligible on Feb 1st. They were eligible before 65 and up were.

Some states are getting way more vaccine allocations than their populations would suggest they should. And within states, the same thing is happening at the county level. None of it makes any sense.
NC is one of those states. It’s my understanding that getting shots in arms and running out of them each week gets you more. NC is giving all shots and is out of them before the next shipment arrives. Honestly it seems fair to me that places who have their act together with vaccine admin get more. No point in sending it to places who will stick it in freezers- we need shots in arms.

Well then CA should qualify for more. They’re cancelling 10s of thousands of appointments here because there isn’t enough vaccine.

All places have their own issues. Raw numbers are a good tool but not the be it all, although maybe the Federal government only looks at raw numbers.

One place that many states have issues with is getting access to minorities. Usually they are left out unless target vaccination efforts are made either by occupations or by community. Getting it into arms isn't really the best strategy when you miss a segment of the population and most especially when that population has been affected more in deaths and hospitalizations in comparison to their population of the U.S. It's a good strategy you're looking at X% vaccinated but WHO is vaccinated matters too.

North Carolina hasn't always been on the good list. Back in Feb North Carolina was in the news for per capita vaccination not being as good and for issues over inequality when it comes to race or ethnicity. Vaccination efforts are a learn as you go and how well or poor you do can change all the time. Sometimes you're excelling sometimes you're not.

My buddy Osterholm was all over the media saying that in another 6 to 14 weeks we will hit a record number of cases and that we are “walking past the mouth of a sleeping monster.”

My ex wife and her husband, both teachers, will be getting vaccinated this week. Our county is setting up a clinic for educators at one of the high schools. Hopefully by May it will be my turn.

Did anyone point out the spectacular change in his timeline? Or how vaccines fit in there?

No.

At least he moved on from the “eye of the hurricane.”

In other news, Florida not getting any J&J vaccine this week. They’re hoping for another shipment next week. I thought the vaccine makers were stock piling for when they were approved.

And now my local news runs with this story....

This is not how you get people to get vaccinated because I am sure there will be another study that shows something else.

Articles like this are absolutely awful. They never mention that with a 10-12 times reduction, those two vaccines ARE STILL EFFECTIVE and you're way better off being vaccinated than not. If a doctor said this cr... stuff...she'd be sanctioned.

They also never mention that South Africa is down over NINETY PERCENT from their highs since their variant has become prominent. That requires discussion in this context and it is never mentioned.
