I am so angry with my colleagues who are like It's a dog eat dog world and I just won and you lost. I could have taken one of those spots at 5:30 when you were in your cozy bed but I can read and follow rules. I hate that this system is basically fend for yourself which just pits people against each other. The state should have moved on to Seniors in the community before they started vaccinating other groups. I am now looking at April or May at the earliest before I will be vaccinated. So very disappointed.
It's been this way from the start. People fought over toilet paper and bread flour. I'm not surprised they're fighting over vaccines too.
Stay healthy.
I am wholeheartedly with you on how people have devolved but I also picked up in your quote how you explain your situation with your occupation, your living situation, the call out for the 16 yr old who works at a grocery store, the call out to the remote teachers (which I get honestly). In the end none of that matters if we care about each other, if we aren't interested in pitting each other against one another. The only thing that matters is that the spots were meant for health care workers and people were able to sign up for appointments who didn't qualify. We are doing this to ourselves and it really saddens me at the end of the day.To say that New York State's rollout of vaccinating the 1b(huge group - police, fire, teachers, essential workers and seniors over 75) group yesterday was abysmal would be putting it mildly. I am a teacher who is in person with my autistic kids. I am in person 4 days a week with kids who do not understand social distancing or mask wearing. My 78 year old father also lives with us. I was on the county website at 5:30AM but the only thing available was a New York State registration form that asks for the date of your first dose - Well I have no idea when that will be so I didn't fill that out. Next I went to the vaccine schedule but that says in big red letters for Health Care workers only. I then spent my planning periods and lunch refreshing pages and trying to figure out what to do. My father spent the day calling pharmacies only to be told they had no idea what he was calling about. When I got home from school I logged into facebook and find out that many of my colleagues who are still 100% remote took the appointments that were for the health care workers. One made an appointment for her 16 year old son who works at a grocery store 5 hours a week. My father who finally got through to his doctor was told it is a lottery system and his name was not called that he may have to continue to wait for up to 10 more weeks and they also told him that he would need to find another doctor since his is retiring.
The state should not have put this information out with no plan to vaccinate people. I am so angry with my colleagues who are like It's a dog eat dog world and I just won and you lost. **Make note there's no excuse for people bending the guidelines to suit themselves so not defending the people who did not adhere to the plan and signed up people who don't qualify.
I understandMy calling those people out is because they knew they were bending the rules. They had been told they were bending the rules and yet still signed up and now the school nurses are not able to get appointments. My point is the state and my county has done a terrible job at rolling this out. Cuomo loves to pat himself on the back and his policies are what is causing these issues. I am a rule follower and was told that I need to be more cut throat. That is not in my DNA. I am so angry at the my union who was told by the governor in December to work with the county and they have done nothing not even providing a statement to people not to use the sign up. In a neighboring county one of the school districts has all their teachers vaccinated at school yesterday. My school district is a complete mess all the time. I do as I am told and do not make waves but this has me so upset.
To be honest I do not care about myself I care more about my 78 year old father who lives with us. My youngest son has had covid in his friend circle recently. He only sees them at school masked up but still. We do not have an inlaw suite we all share a bathroom. I just feel like the covid sharks are circling and waiting to strike.
I hear you. And you have every right to raise your eyebrows. Bless you for your in person work with special needs kids.My calling those people out is because they knew they were bending the rules. I saw something today also for Wisconsin that listed out phases and 1A was just health care and long term care. People like my parents, 65+, were in 1C, which surprised me. For my age group, I fully expect to have to wait several months. But if what you saw is accurate and they’re expecting 5-6 months for just 1A, that is really discouraging. I thought my parents would at least have a chance to get it by spring.I heard today that the Secretary-Designee of Wisconsin Department of Health Services said she did not expect Phase IA to be completed until June. I guess they've moved up Police and Fire into IA from IB, one of the cities near me put out a press release today that they started vaccinating the fire department, with the police department starting on Thursday.
Living in New York our gov. Has botched it. So few vaccines being distributed. No pharmacy distribution as of yet. Having our gov. in charge wasn't a good idea.
Looks like the J & J vaccine is looking good. Lets hope they get approval soon. It's only one dose!
I filled out the online form for my county health department's COVID vaccine roll out at the end of December. I'm only in my 40s but I have asthma, which I indicated. To my surprise, I got the notice to come in today for my vaccine between 3-4 pm. I didn't get expect to get the call until early spring but wanted to get in the queue for my tier. I was impressed by how well run the administration was and it took very little time.
I think the administration of the vaccines was really well done but I'm baffled by how they're deciding who gets it when. I have no doubt that other people should have been called before me. I wasn't sure whether I'd get another slot though if I cancelled or whether the person who took my place would need it more than me.
Yup. One does, no super cold storage, and traditional vaccine development.
