CC - kids activities question

So now that I have my first cruise booked (4 night out of Miami on Magic) I'm having fun researching all the things. I'll be solo parenting on this trip, kids are 13 and 9. I'm a runner and would like to do the CC 5k if possible, but I noticed that the kids activities listed for CC say that the kids club is for ages 3-12 and the Teen Hangout is ages 14-17. What can my 13 yr old do while I'm running? He has some neuro differerences and acts a bit younger than his calendar age. Would it make sense to ask permission for him to stay with his 9 yr old sister in the kids club during that time or should I skip the run? His safety and comfort are obviously much more important to me. Thank you!

They are pretty strict about not letting older kids into the younger clubs. You might have better luck getting him into the 14-17 age group, they sometimes let kids age up if there's room. That's odd for them to leave 13 yrs old out of any of the groups at CC. Maybe they will let him join his sister on CC since they don't have a specific group for his age like on the ship. I would still ask once onboard the ship. Hope you have a great cruise.

I'm not sure how they handle it on Castaway Cay. Onboard the ship Oceaneer's is 3-12, Edge is 11-14, and Vibe is 14-17.

I'd be surprised if they didn't have ANY Edge activities on Castaway Cay.

As noted, they don't let kids (usually) "age down" to participate in a lower age group.

On the Navigator from our Cruise last week on the Fantasy, it lists "Invade Teen Hideout @ Castaway Cay" as the first Edge activity at 11am. We were delayed getting in to Castaway Cay last week and All Ashore was at 10:30am, and the 5k was held on board instead of the island. Sounds like for us they were combined Edge and Vibe at least at the start of the day on Castaway Cay.

The race is usually first thing in the morning before the scheduled kids activities. But this blogs suggests that there is child care, https://Mlckeyblog.com/2018/10/27/what-is-the-castaway-cay-5k-and-how-do-i-sign-up/

There are Edge organized activities on CC that would include your 13-year-old. If you look at a previous navigator, you’ll see that the Edge category says invade the teen hang out. The challenge for you will be that those activities don’t tend to begin until after the 5K has finished. Your 13-year-old will not be permitted to go into Scuttles Cove which is limited to 3 to 12-year-olds. Would your 13 year old be interested in joining you on the 5K? Or, if you felt comfortable they could stay on the ship while you run the 5K.

Unfortunately your son will be unable to attend secured programming with his sister. Tween programming is not available until later in the morning.

It’s probably important to point out that while there are organized Edge activities on the island, it is not like the Scuttles Cove secured space for the younger kids. Same as on the ship, Edge and Vibe kids are not checked-in or checked-out by an adult. They are free to leave as they wish. You will need to consider how that will work for your son - both onboard and at CC.

Enjoy your cruise!
