I read something on another site (mousesavers I think) and they said that there is an island at CBR with a childrens playground and live parrots. Is this true?? Is it always open? Do you have to rent a watercraft to get to it?? This is our first time at CBR and that sounds like something DS would enjoy.

TIA

The info about the parrots is unfortunately outdated. Until early 2001 there WERE many parrots on the island (Parrot Cay) in the middle of the lake, but they were moved to a new home. There are several children's playgrounds on the beaches of the resort, however. I believe there is also playground equipment still on the island, I know there are benches there.

And no, you do not have to rent watercraft to get to the island, there are footbridges that lead from the area around Old Port Royale, behind the main pool, over to the island, then over again to the Jamaica section of the resort. It's not a huge island, but can be fun to explore a bit. There are small winding paths that lead off the main path. We followed some and found some very scenic little areas with beautiful flowers and some of the "Spanish pirate's fort" decor. :)

Click here, it's a page from my CBR web site, scroll down and you will see a pic of the footbridge leading to Parrot Cay island :) http://home.comcast.net/~terry527/html/cbrGrounds.htm

I haven't been there since 1996. We stayed in Jamaica and had to cross the island to get to Old Port Royale. It was a short walk and very enjoyable. I remember they had piped in caribbean music that we really loved. They had the birds way back then but they were caged anyway and no big deal.
