CBR Pirate Room - FD

I was able to sign up for FD for my trip however there were essentially NO standard rooms or rooms at all left anywhere (except Pop and AKL...I can't go back to values and I can't spend $$$). I was planning on staying at CBR and there happened to be some Pirate Theme Rooms left. I have seen quite a few negative comments about the rooms so are there any positives at all? or just give me the harsh truth about the negatives. I guess if it is Pirates or no Disney, I will just have to stick with Pirates.

I am hoping through some glimmer of hope I can "downgrade" to a standard room after the FD craze slows down. Is there any hope for that either?

I wish I had gotten up at 3:00 a.m. like everyone else did and just made the reservation. I couldn't believe how everything was gone by 6:00.

If it makes you feel any better, that's all there was (for Oct 1st) at 3:30 am as well. I swapped from CBR to POP with a room discount. I'm hoping I can either get an agency discount or just keep watching for the dust to settle.

Things to know about the Pirate Rooms:
  • They're in the most remote "village" at CBR, and you either need a car, or to love the internal buses, to go anywhere.
  • With Free Dining, know you will never be refilling your refillable mug.
  • The beds are double beds with terrible mattresses.
  • Some find the decor cheesy.
They are always offered in discounts and free dining, because people don't tend to book them otherwise.

I would suggest doing the math to be sure "free" dining is worth paying the inflated rack rate for these rooms.

I'm in the same boat as you. We are currently booked at POR and since that isn't included in the FD for my dates we were going to switch to CBR but only pirate rooms are available and it would have added $900 to our existing reservation cost so it's not worth it for me. Plus I think the rooms are ugly. I'd rather just stay at POR for now and see if maybe a room only there comes out later. Or wait and see if a standard room at CBR opens up during our dates.

Yes I am hoping for a standard to open up either CBR or CSR. I have been to CSR a couple of times and think it is great. Just wanted to try something new this time. At this point I would take either one. So do I just keep stalking the on-line reservation system or start calling WDW direct to try and find a standard room at either resort for my dates? I am hopeful with the flurry of activity this week that something somewhere would open up.
